Ok, as some of you may have already read in another thread, one of our community members has found himself in a difficult situation.
Due to a long series of unfortunate events he is amoung other things, found himself unable to be the santa for his kids that he wishes he could be this year. He has 4 little ones who are facing the real possibility of waking up christmas morning to find that santa didnt come. For a child this is something impossible to understand, and something kids shouldnt have to deal with. It is supposed to be a time full of magic and wonder and of course...presents!
Now, I dont know him personally but he is a member of this community and a member of our greater community of caring people.
I dont know about you folks but I just cant sit by and not try to do something to help him put the magic back into the season for his little ones.

So, here is what I propose:

I dont think I know anyone who has a paypal account that doesnt have a dollar or two sitting in the bottom of it. It too little to spend, and too little to withdrawl. So, that got me to thinking that if we all take those few bucks and compile them we just might have enough to buy a few gifts. Some of the community can afford to send a little more than others and I hope you can find it in your hearts to step up and help make some kids happy on christmas morning.
I know I have a few bucks that would otherwise just sit in the account and I cant think of a better place to send it than to these kids.

Some of you may prefer to buya gift and mail it. We can work that out too. I have asked him to provide me with his kid's wish list so those who would rather shop and ship can get what the kids are asking santa for.

He also has a medical need for some med pot and I know some of you can help him with that to help ease his incredible physical pain and discomfort.
Once he has it set up I/he will post the paypal info and an email addy so you can write him regarding mailing gifts to him and his family. No need to post his address on the boards. We can keep that stuff private.

Some of you creative minds can surely come up with other suggestions to make the spirit of the holidays shine brighter in his home and I encourage you to post them here.

And btw...scrooges need not reply. Keep the negativity and spam away please. This just simply isnt the appropriate place for it.

I did'nt want to post on this thread but what you said is bothering me. I'm not asking for help. My friend Funky Monkey wanted to do this for me. I having a hard enough time letting my pride go to accept the fact that my wife had to apply for food assistance through social services. I'd post up images of my accident report, Police report, late bills, my medical records. But what's the point? I just don't like being told by somebody that I'm not living through what I told you I am. I did'nt ask anyone to feel sorry for me or to help me. I just wanted to share what's going on in my life at the moment to get some things off of my chest. Please don't call me a liar again or imply I could be one. I see where you are coming from. I know places like that can provide some limited help.

man, if i hadn't just got my job i would help out. I know man, i know. Last year the 1st of december i got fired from my taxi job. with less then a month to go till christmass. at the time i was engaged, she had a child from a previous relationship, i was all excited cause it was her kid's first real christmass (she was 2). after i got canned my hopes went out the window, no money for food or presents. Once again, he is not the one who came on here asking for anything. He posted his story to give some insight into his state of mind and to share with people who care.Thats it.
I read it, felt the desire to do something to try to help out a fellow human in need and took it upon myself to make this thread.
Its a bump in the road that others are able to help him over if they feel it within themselves to do so.
I dont expect this to appeal to everyone but some of us cant look the other way, and are trying to make a small difference in someone elses holiday however we can.
It doesnt matter to me that I dont know him.
If he were a single man I might be more apt to say " I feel for you but tough it out" but , its all about the kids man, all about the kids.

I respect your opinion, please dont feel Im attacking it...just trying to give a little more info to balance it out thats all.

I really wish I could go back to my old job but they won't let me for insurance reasons (Sounds like their covering their asses to me) so I've been trying to find a new job and not tell them about my head injuries. I miss working and it's driving me crazy sitting in this house all everyday. Where I happen to live jobs are not as easy to find as I had hoped. I'm doing okay other than the headaches. Have to dim my brightness on the screen.:o Some people were telling me to look for local help which I did over a month ago. I called eight churches asking for help for my kids and not one of them ever called back. Through this crisis I have found out that an ordinary person can make more of a difference in someone elses life than an orginization who says they help people in trobule.

I suffer from severe migraines so I feel ya about the headaches. I have found that a good heavy stone is the only thing that ever helps in any way. It takes the edge off long enough to chill out my mood, raise my spirits,and give me some rest. Nothing takes it away but it makes it more manageable. I hope you get your hands on some soon.

I wouldnt even know where to steer you in the US. Do you have united way? If you do maybe a call to them can yield some referrals. They know of every service agency out there. Apparently though, many places have cut off dates for christmas assistance since they can only provide help to a certain number of families. If you were in Canada I would know of some places but that doesnt help you much though.

Oh, and no problem about the email offer. Just doing what is within my realm.
I wish i could do more. Its frustrating seeing a family struggle when so many others prosper. Sometimes shitty things happen to good people. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing everything happens for a reason and even if its not visible now, it will be revealed eventually.

I hope they are able to pinpoint a problem and you can move on from symptom treatment to treating the underlying problem and start the road to recovery.

Well I got all of the tests completed today. I really enjoyed being in the MRI tube for over 30 minutes listening to whooshing sounds. Not. Well I should have the results back tomorrow. See you all later I'm really tired.

Alright I got the test results back this morning by phones and my ER doctor's suspicions were correct. I have multiple ruptured blood vessels in my cerebellum which is technically known as an aneurism or a cerebral hemorrhage. He further states that from such an injury I am most lucky to be alive or functioning but I need to seriously keep an eye on it. As for correcting the problem they tell me the only way to do so is time because any type of surgery would just cause more problems than it would fix. Plus I don't want my head cut open. I don't want you all to think I'm mentally retarded or a vegtable (excuse the blunt words) but I don't feel I ever lost any intelligence it's just that I am having odd mood swings, depression and random feelings of hostility. I never used to be hostile. I was always that laid back guy and now at moments I act like a blood thirsty marine. Anyways if someone had to get seriously injured in that wreck I'm glad it was me instead of the rest of my family. Those with kids know what I mean. If someone told me I had to die in order for my children to live I would'nt think twice about it. I love you all and thank you for your prayers and warm wishes.

I think the United States is the only major goverment that does not provide healthcare for it's citizens without charge. Like my wife for instance has an absess tooth and no dentist will see her because they want money up front. So I went with her to the so called "Free Clinics" and they want $75 up front. They tell me that I'm going to the hospital too much and need to find a primary care doctor but none of them will see me since I have no insurance. When I was in the wreck and lost our vehicle I lost my job and insurance because I can't get there anymore. Yeah U.S. healthcare does suck right along with everything else. :(

yes, there is a lot of red tape they put us through but once thru it it works. just be patient and give yourself time to get thru the process (it sounds like you're going for permanent disability?). once you get there you'll get a check retroactive from the day you 1st applied so the sooner you get started the better. while at the social security office ask for what local services are offered. i'm sure you'll be surprised to see what all is available to those in need. yes, it does take time and often hours are spent waiting for the next available attendant but what else do you have right now? your "community services" should be your 1st stop and get your self registered for food stamps and a mediCAID card and i'd do that ASAP. you will have a fridge full of food and be on the list for gifts for the kids at the same time as well as have access to dr's with the medicaid card...later it will become a mediCARE card, once accepted for early retirement trhough disability.

yes, there is a lot of red tape they put us through but once thru it it works. just be patient and give yourself time to get thru the process (it sounds like you're going for permanent disability?). once you get there you'll get a check retroactive from the day you 1st applied so the sooner you get started the better. while at the social security office ask for what local services are offered. i'm sure you'll be surprised to see what all is available to those in need. yes, it does take time and often hours are spent waiting for the next available attendant but what else do you have right now? your "community services" should be your 1st stop and get your self registered for food stamps and a mediCAID card and i'd do that ASAP. you will have a fridge full of food and be on the list for gifts for the kids at the same time as well as have access to dr's with the medicaid card...later it will become a mediCARE card, once accepted for early retirement trhough disability.

My wife has already gone to Social Services and obtained what is known as an EBT card which can be used to purchase food on a monthly basis and has also gotten Medicaid for herself and our children. However they will not cover me under Medicaid for various reasons. As for the disability I'm not injured so bad that I cannot work however after the accident I lost my job due to lack of transportation and jobs where I live are most difficult to come by. I have walked as far as my legs can take me looking for work to no avail. My brain injury has not affected my intelligence, motor skills or speech but it has caused some severe mood swings which I am told could last months to years. By nature I am a good person but the injury plus current stress causes me to get hostile and combative at times which is not me at all. I don't like yelling or fighting at all. As a matter of fact I condone violence but as you all know the human brain is a very complex organ and injury to it causes abnormal reations. I want to go back to work. I feel totally useless sitting here at home not supporting my family as I should be doing. It's driving me crazy watching all of this happen and not being able to anything about it. Once again thanks to all of you trying to help me get through this. I just can't imagine my kids waking up christmas morning with nothing under the tree for them. Okay, if you sue the insurance company you're very likely to win. You probably don't have any money to sue them, but call all the local lawyers you can find, and I'm sure at least one of them will be willing to take the case for a percentage of the potential winnings. You won't get your full payment, but 80% is better then 0%.

Don't get discouraged if the first one won't. There are alot of lawyers out there and if you keep trying you'll find one.

My wife and myself had already contacted toys for tots and the salvation army over a month ago. They don't distribute presents until a few days before christmas. Family near by lost there house and car from house fire. 2 of the 4 children were in the house with the family dog. One child burned to death, The other child is in the burn center located 250 miles away with 85% of her body melted from fire.
Family was guilded to community resources which brought the community together to help. Television stations broadcasted the tragity and set up a bank account to help with burial.
Dad stayed here while Mom went to Portland to be with her little girl. They have apartments up there for families needing a temporary room during hospital visits.
Dad is here picking up the pieces with the remaining two children. He has been helped through local services and red cross. Salvation Army has temporary housing for families in crisis. St Paul has donated clothes and a car. Local contractors have settled and are working with each other to re-build lost home. They are hoping to complete it by x-mas.
This is a family in need... Not a family who fucked up!

Well, for all the people who donated cash and toys I hope he does come back with great pics. One pic in particular i'd be interested in is him holding up a local newspaper. Family album pics can easily be gained on-line. I happen to know where he's located... Show me a pic of him with current local newspaper and I'll eat my shoes for being wrong. But, still I don't understand why he didn't take up local help, resources and support or even answer to me why he didn't. I asked several times.
I'm a very mellow old hippy. Seen a lot in my time. When you've had the wool pulled over your eyes a couple of times in life you take precautions and cover all the bases before doing any action and being played on again. I hate being scammed upon, thieved, dishonestly and it bugs me even more when my friends are being scammed and played. They can't see it because they are caught up in emotions. Christmas is the best time to pull the 'ol wool over peoples eyes. The sad part is because of his short period of membership makes me wonder if this is the only site he's telling his story too?
