i enjoy it also...
i live only a couple hours from the boundry waters (vast wilderness on the border of canada and america) and enjoy going there...nothing better then enjoying a spliff, or even better, a mushroom trip, in the wilderness...

see, now that sounds like fun. what part of cali.i would not recommend the southern part as it gets rough.ive traveled around and people in la are stressed out and grouchy.i think from sitting in traffic and breathing the fumes for years at a time

I've done a lot of backpacking, although since I've become a father its mostly hiking with my little one on my back. I've been on various small chunks of the PCT in all three states. Its a great trail. I did one big chunk, about 120 miles, from Sonora Pass down to Yosemite. It was one of my all time favorite trips. We took 12 days but were going at a leisurely pace, hanging out at certain lakes for a few days at a time, etc. Unbelievable scenery. I'll scan some pics and post them later this weekend.
I hope you don't mind bears. On our 12 day trip we had bears come into our camp 9 nights. Just remember to hang your food and make sure you put everything that smells, food, toothpaste, etc. along with it. The last thing you want is to wake up with some bear gnawing at your sack because you a tube of chapstick in your pocket. Keep some rocks near your tent door too. You can throw them at the bears. Seriously, I'm not kidding.

Yeah, I know what you mean about them creeping bears. I was cooking dinner at a car campground in the Eastern Sierra once when I heard a twig snap about 2 feet away. I though it was my girlfriend coming back with some water but when I turned to look it was a big fucking bear. The bugger had just walked right up to me completely silent. My first thought was to just run away but I was hungry and didn't want to give up dinner if I didn't have to. I grapped some pans and jumped up banging them together and screaming as loud as I could. The bear took off running, although directly at my girlfriend who was now coming back with the water. He turned when he noticed her but not before scaring the piss out of her. Literally :p
