I love it when these government and media types say that 'smoking marijuana causes schizophrenia, suicidal tendancies, etc etc' BUT have they ever thought of this - the most common form of cannabis on out streets today is still (sadly) the humble block of hashish called 'soap'. As I'm sure everyone is aware, this is adulterated with toxins and chemicals that 99.9% of people would'nt even dream of consuming! This is frequently consumed by teens, thinking that its 'cool' and smoking herb makes them 'hard'. These type of people are collectively known as the - yep, you guessed it - chav. Call them what you will, but they're just vermin that need to be shot ASAP.

Anyway, my question is thus: is it the bud/THC which can make people schizophrenic later in life, or is it the chemicals like bootpolish and turpentine thats causing the problem?
My thoughts are with the latter. And, if this is the case, then legalising is the only way forward - not only would that prove to everyone once and for all that it really is a harmless drug (if taken responsibly) - but it would get rid of this disgusting soap bar hash, the scummy dealers, and free up police time so they can also prove to us that they can do good in the community.

marijuana does cause 'mental illness', so if your fine with that then keep on smoking. i know i'm fine with it, hell, mental illnesses' seem to be the trend, nowadays. spoken truly from a man with a mental illness. and, instead of just writing it off as a handicap, try to make into another style of thinking, which in it's entirety is already so. be creative, and responsive. don't just let it consume you, grow with it or grow out of it.

Highly probable that getting blasted on high grade skunk every day screws you up a bit, but, you know, so does putting in 12 stressful hours a day in an office block for little reward, but the man wants us to do that.

I have several colleagues who have been off sick with stress. I know a few tokers at work and they are all sound in the head.

That's exactly the way I think dude. People say to me "but smoking isn't exactly healthy" and i'm thinking well shit, staring at a computer screen all day isn't good for your eyes, sitting on an office chair isn't good for your I don't know, your legs, and taking orders from a 45 year old dipshit who still lives with his mum isn't good for your fucking soul but guess what, we do it because it gets us what we're supposed to get, and we're supposed to get that because, well, we're just supposed to, so shut the fuck up and do what you're told. Well, man, maybe we're not supposed to get high but we sure as hell want to, and after spending all day getting what we're supposed to get and doing what we're supposed to do I think we should maybe, just maybe be allowed to do whatever the fuck we want. =)

Damn, I feel like I should be listening to Rage Against The Machine...

Pick your poison. Die from Stress or die from Weed. Wait. That can't happen.

Research needs to be done on all aspects of Marijuana, including experiments with teenagers (it will not hurt them). The research should get as extensive as the birth of a "marijuana" baby, from two experimental subjects who are pure (with the exception of THC in the blood). They should find out if it not only helps blood disorders, but can cure them, in the long run.

Marijuana eases symptoms of just about every known biological illness. In the long run, the ease can be a cure. Quote that, turn it inside out and tell me you're mental illness has gone away.

I do believe it can cause schizophrenia, suicidal tendancies, etc etc' in some people. I've seen it happen! Some people have underlying physcological problems and when they consume marijuana these problems tend to surface. Some people just shouldn't smoke, as with alcohol! Some people just shouldn't drink!

Just my :twocents:

Peace

I knew a guy who had older brothers, this guy was tall, and he had a father who always had his sons in basketball (and baseball). All the brothers were tall. His name was Jeff. He did not smoke weed. He had a promising life as a basketball player, he was one of our city's best.

No weed, he shot himself in the head, in his room, when he was a junior in high school.

The whole family would be so different had marijuana been a factor in the American Family Way of Life. The stress would not have caused him to shoot himself in the head. I remember being at his house and seeing his father, whom I've known since I was little, Jeff was my age. Then a year after, his father had set-up a city-wide memorial basketball tournament and, after the games one Saturday, a bunch of us went back to his house. He had a keg in the garage for everyone.

At this point, I realized that marijuana was the last thing that Mr. Johnson would have wanted his son, Jeff, to do. Maybe, he should have advised it.

There were a lot of suicides by younger people in Amsterdam, NY. None of them were from Pot-users. Heroin was the cause of a lot of them, it had become an epidemic in the 90's.

He might have gotten into a serious drug. I know he didn't smoke Weed. Don't go analyzing the situation because there is so much more to it than just what I wrote.

Like the fact that I picked him off of First Base, a few years before, and his father was the coach and screamed at him in front of everybody, right on the playing field. That's how much pressure he had.

The poll says "do you agree with the statement below?". but there's no quotations anywhere, so do you mean the statement that it causes mental illness or the statement that you wrote yourself?

Sorry about that - I was trying (and failed miserably, by the looks of it lol) to get peoples opinions on the statement I wrote. In short, do you agree with me that its probably the 'soap bar' that causes these illnesses - by the consumption of turpentine, beeswax, bootpolish and so forth - or do you think its the actual cannabis buds themselves?
Would be interesting for scientists to conduct a study on this, between groups of people smoking soap-hashish and buds, and also different amounts consumed in different methods. For example, if smoking buds proved to increase the risk of mental illness, does cooking and eating also increase the chance or is this a safe method?

Only the mad are sane in an insane world....

or somthing to those words.....if you think its making you/going to make you insane then stop smoking....its a simple as that....or keep smoking and deal with the consequences.....

.....to tell you the truth i think its probly the THC cause you dont only have thc induced mental ilness in the UK...its all over the world (apparently)....i dnot think that soap bar is the healthiest way smoke smoke weed at all.
