these people were members of a leftist anti-war group in Iraq to see if they could create any stories of U.S. war crimes.

The abducted are pacifists, and the organization is called Christian Peacemaker Teams.
Their method of protest is ??getting in the way? in various situations. Hopefully, those that are holding them will release them unscathed to gain support.

I??m not big on ??conspiracy? theories, but it??s possible that the whole thing is a publicity stunt to get sympathy for their captors.

They blame the U.S. and the U.K. for the abduction:
