Hey Guys. I know some of you get the urge to play your axe while high sometimes and have to tune up before playing. I do this often and am usually very good at determining sharp/flat differences while tuning, when I tune high, the pitches keep changing on me or never quite fit because my mind hears so many different wavy pitches. Anyone ever have this surreal and frustrating (at least 10 minutes) experience?

Is it possible your intonation adjustments are off? Or maybe your playing style is a little different when you're stoned and you are bending the strings a little without being aware of it. What kind of guitar is it?

Straight answer to your direct question; No, in 40 years or so of playing, I've never had trouble tuning up when stoned because my ear was off. Lots of other reasons though; old strings, brand new strings, intonation, problems with nuts and saddles, bad tuners, warped neck, mal-adjusted truss rod, tremolo problems, temperature and humidity fluctuations, etc.

Try using an electronic tuner.

I don't seem to recall having any trouble stoned. Drinking + guitar tuning is difficult for me to say the least, though.

i tune my guitar when im high...and it actually sounds better then when i tune sober...i tune to what sounds good, not to what i think is right...tune to whatever is in the air...and then i play something, and its like the weird stoner tuning complements it...

once i woke up in the morning to find my E string higher then my A O.o

I dont play YET, so I dont knowNine years under my belt. ;)

Navy blue Stratocaster with Crate amp, Ernie Ball slinkies, and a no name acoustic. I'm usually tuned to drop D or C with the electric. Not much use down-tuning an acoustic, though.

My dad had a red Gibson S.G., and two people in his band had Gibson Les Pauls.. one of which was a beautiful sunburst. My God how it sounded with flange/distortion combo.. -drooooools-

I love playing John Paul Jones' basslines in Led Zeppelin. They're very fun to play.
