i have 2/40 watt flo lights, and i also have 2/300 watt clear lights, question is which 1 do i use on a 1 week old plant? in a 4x6 grow room.4 plants

You really need all of the wattage you can get bro. I really don't think those lights you have are going to do you any good at all but I get into the expensize stuff myself. Take a look here at what I use. www.bghydro.com Now if you are starting out cheap or just trying to get the hang of growing you could use those spiral fluro tubes as seen in this thread http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=31150&page=1 until you decide to step it up a bit. your 'clear' lights sound like incandescents, if thats true then throw them out.. they are useless

your flo lights will be ok for now, i have seen many small grows do very well under just flos ... but you will need alot more than 80w for 4 plants
by the time you buy enough flos to get a good grow going you could have almost bought a small HID system .. both have their advantages and drawbacks, most people go HID, i have done both, am in the middle of an all flo grow now, but my MAIN setup is a hps light with some extra flo tubes on the walls for side lighting

if your set on flos, then get at least triple what you have now and distribute it evenly between the tops and sides of the plants ... keep all the flo lights within a few inches of the plants if ya can

Mighty I'm just curious do you use a tube fluro for side light? I use a 1000watt DayStar AC to just penatrate the compound leaves instead of iluminating the sides but I figure either way is just as effective. What do you think bro?

You have to keep in mind you don't ever want to put 1000 watts into a small area or you will roast anything in the space.

my grow space requires 840 sq ft, so i would have to go with 1000. is that right?

or a 400 watt hetal halide system and a 400 watt high pressure sodium system would be effective as well that way you would not need to change bulbbs for vegitative to flowering cycles.

yea trich, right now i am experimenting with a micro / all fluor grow

it is a 1 sq.ft box, 1x 45w warm white cfl up top, and 4x 15w tube fluors mounted vertically for side lighting.. all pet shop bulbs... 1x exo-terra repti-glo 8% UV-B, mostly blue, 1x zoomed ocean sun strong blue, and 2x hagen aqua glo strong in red and blue, appear purple to the eye :D ... total 105w for 1sq.ft... sofar my results are lookin very nice.. but im only almost halfway thru flowering.. with the corrects spectrum lights / soidro setup i have seen growth roughly equal to my main box grows

my main box is 3sq.ft. with a 150w hps and will soon incorporate those same 4 tube lights for side lighting

a 1kw light will give ya the penetration for sure.. but i prefer to use flors because my total operating cost is less than half the wattage, and my garden is small enough to use them, since fluors don't have penetration at all they aren't that good for side lighting on gardens that are much larger than mine, for small grows of 2-3 plants though they are great :thumbsup: :)
