Sounds like you have yourself some fungus gnats. Usually due to over watering. Try and keep the soil on the dry side. They will feed on fungus, organic material and lay eggs in your soil. Eliminate the fungus and you will eliminate the gnats.

Could be fruit flies...
leave a glass of apple juice out over night... if they go for the apple juice chances are they're fruit flies
fruit flies are harmless.... although kinda annoying..

gnats yellow sticky pad with rod works ultra fine for me.. one in each pot ;) because gnats larvaes will eventually damage your roots if uncontrolled cuz they eat your root hairs wich will slow nutrients uptake by the plant creating stress & slowering growth... also let the soil be completely dry before watering again, larvaes wont survive in dry environment ;)
Good Luck & Happy Growing! :D

Fruit flies are a likely suspect. Look into a "Electronic Pest Detterant" They cost $10 at lowe's or home depot and they emit a sound inaudible to humans however most animals and insects can hear it. It disrupts their nervous system and drives them from the area and also makes them unable to communicate with one another.
