UK 24 Hour Drinking Laws: Pouring Gasoline On A Raging Fire
Steve Watson | November 24 2005 (http://infowars.net/index.html)
Round-the-clock drinking in England and Wales is now a reality after new licensing laws came in force.
More than 1,000 pubs, clubs and supermarkets have been granted 24-hour licences to sell alcohol, according to government figures. Up to 70, 000 establishments may follow suit.
Home Secretary Charles Clarke said recorded crime was set to rise as police resources targeted alcohol-fuelled offences.
Britain's most senior police officer said he was worried his force's resources would be "stretched", particularly in the early hours of the morning.
One has to wonder just why the government is so keen on seeing through this change in the law despite the fact that they openly admit it will lead to more crime and will stretch police resources further.
Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell told the BBC that it would also be necessary "to give the police the powers that they need to tackle the problem we have as a country of alcohol-related crime and violence,".
The level of binge drinking decadence in this country is already at a frightening level. The streets of any large town and EVERY major city are literally like war zones on Friday and Saturday nights now with drunken yobs trashing anything that gets in their path, including each other, and others writhing around in their own vomit, too inebriated to stand up and get home.
24 hour drinking will simply increase this to a greater level of frequency, not diminish it as the government argues. If you pour gasoline on a raging fire it explodes.
The argument against 24 hour drinking is not one of Puritanism, it is simply common sense. Statistics show (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4204992.stm) that we now individually consume double the amount of alcohol than we did 50 years ago.
Binge drinking is causing rising levels of alcoholic gastritis, pancreatitis and liver damage, diseases once found only in older men.
Thousands of prominent doctors (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4195130.stm) have gone on record as saying that this is crazy and will lead to a boom in health problems among young people.
Dr Kieran Moriarty, advisor to the Department of Health has said that "Now we're seeing patients in their thirties and twenties and even the occasional patient in their teens will irreversible alcoholic liver disease and dying in their twenties with irreversible alcoholic liver disease - with jaundice and liver coma, internal bleeding - and it's very distressing."
Yet the Government seems determined to press ahead. The new laws have a twofold effect that suit a government that seems hell bent on instituting a police state:
The pretext is set to give Police more power on the streets and allow them to take more liberties with people out after 9pm.
The general public will either increasingly stay away from city centres after 9pm or will engage in the zombie like drinking "freedom".
The Government knows that our society is not populated in the majority by sophisticated, responsible, highly cultured young men and women who like to idly pass an evening in a swanky restaurant over a bottle of wine. No, they know it is made up mostly of underprivileged, underpaid and overworked people who release their frustration by getting utterly wasted given the opportunity, or of young people who want to have as much fun as they can before they get screwed over by the system and stuck in the rat race.
24 hour drinking will only lead to a growth in this so called "culture" of UK society
