I actually don't have a problem with George Best, well, i didn't until he got that liver transplant. That liver could've gone to somebody that would've actually been grateful for it, not someone that saw it as a fresh start with alcohol, meaning now he's had that new liver it means he can drink himself stupid again. I don't have a problem with alcohol, i don't agree with it, and statistically i can't believe how when compared to Cannabis people can just ignore facts and figures that indicate maybe just how unsafe it is, and a massive drain on resources.
I'll give it to old georgey boy, he knew how to get fucked...him and oliver reed.

I agree with a lot you say. as an alcoholic myself( in recovery), yeah, I do agree about the Liver.I would have been annoyed if one of my family members needed a liver transplant, and an availible liver was given to such a chronic alcoholic, however, livers are matched ONLY by as needs, be, in other words, they dont actualy go down a list a choose who or who not deserves one. I too however was disgusted when he returned to drinking, but there for the grace of God go i. I too probably would have done the same at one point, the want for drink is raging.
maybe someone should have passed him a spliff. Who knows?
Theres only one, who makes the choice whever we live or die as far as Im concernded anyway, as a lapsed catholic :)
But again, I do it it goes quick and painlessly for him. I cried when I saw his pics in the news of the world, what a waste, eh?

A waste, but a self inflicted one. Apparently he used to play football or something.

Meh, he did it to himself, so maybe he needs to stay alive another week or 2 so he realises what he did was stupid.
And before anyone says i don't have a clue, about 2 years ago me and my mates used to get drunk everyday, i'd have to have a drink everyday, even if it was just a swig of whisky from my dad's spirits.
I stopped drinking.. well i dunno how i stopped, i guess i just got fed up with it, and since i started smokin' bud most days, i just haven't had the urge for a drink, a high is better, and you can get on with anything afterwards :)

I personally have no sympathy for the man. My mother has a transplant and I'll need one too someday so to see what a waste of a perfectly good organ disgusts me.

with all this talk of the supply and demand of organs ...what do you guys think about stem cell technology...the merits and ethics??

Undecided really, I'd much rather everyone just took the little step to become a registered organ donor. I'd also support an opt out system to be used rather than the current one. Some people are just too lazy or don't know about organ donation to sign up, with an opt out system the amount of availible organs would be much larger resulting in better matches, shorter waiting lists and ultimatly less suffering.

he knows full well what he did was stupid hence the reason he asked for pictures of him looking the sickest ive ever seen an alive man to be put on the front page of news of the world to show other people what can happen.
the 'addiction' you may of slightly had from alcohol is absolutely nothing in comparison to what this man went through and at the end of the day he learnt his lesson and knows it, no need for anyone to slate him

with all due respect, sincerly, some would argue, that you as a marijuana smoker would not be deserving of a transplant organ either, how do you feel about this issue? thats smokers too, should be di-allowed organs for those who dont smoke.
curious?
again, with respect.

I feel that way with cigarettes, if you had a lung transplant (can you? lol) and you carried on smoking afterwards, then you shouldn't be allowed one.
If you need one 'cause you smoked, i think the lungs should go to someone that doesn't smoke, before you.

rip then
He was a genius football player from Northern Ireland and also a really nice
guy, he chatted to my overwhelmed 8yr old son for 20minutes in Birmingham
airport (1995). I'm sad that he didn't manage to overcome his addiction after
the transplant. But I don't think it should've been denied him. He's human, a
man with failings but his family are having to watch him die and that's tragic
enough without people saying he wasn't deserving of a second chance.
He fucked up, he's paying for it. The photos he requested to be published
show his remorse and acceptance of what he did wrong.
Rest easy Georgie Baby.....we still love ya

Too true... but yeah, lol at that picture..
I guess he should have cut down.. or just gone cold turkey, surely someone could have overpowered him, even physically, even if they had to tie him down and feed him through a tube just so he couldn't go get a drink.

I assume you are a smoker if you are on this forum, so if you get cancer, youd forgo a transplant because you brought it on your self?
So, ergo, smoking is okay in your book, and any possible cancer, but drinkers are not allowed the same compassion? hmm
interseting train of thought.

Im sorry rasta but why should a person that has led an unhealthy life be given a transplant. George Best was an alcoholic and I think that the liver should have been given to someone more deserving.
3 Sheets To The Wind
11-24-2005, 10:38 PM
Yeah, if i smoked 20 cigs a day (i don't smoke any, thankfully) and got cancer, i'd like new lungs, but i'd see the side that i brought it on myself, so i'm not as deserving as a non-smoker :)

I would agree if it was a lung transplant, if I had anything wrong with my lungs and needed a transplant I wouldn't jepidise (spl?) a chance at another shot at life.

yeah, personally i had hoped he would have gone off during the night.
Yes, he brought it all on himself, and all that, but as I said before, as a recovering alcoholic, there but for the grace of god go I.
But in perspective, he's not Howard Shipman, the murdering bastard of a doctor, hes not Ian Huntly, he wasnt a paodephile, and I hate to see all the yeah fuck him, its his own fault, for fucks sake the man only harmed himself.
Anyways, its snowing here in Dublin, colder than a withces tit, whats it like where you are 3 sheets.
Ps, you'd need more than 3 sheets here today,

Oh, it's cold.. all the motherfuckin' time!
Yeah, it's freezing here, I went out earlier to smoke my last bowl (dry until monday, unless a dealer I've used once pulls through) and when I was done, I noticed all the flowerpots were full of water which had frozen (forming ice, duh!) so I smashed the ice to shit and had a pretty fun (and cold) time :D

I probably came off sounding a bit harsh before, I'd never wish ill health on anyone and would love him to make a full recovery but it just annoyed me how he squandered a chance which many don't even get.
