no, in a large city such as amsterdam it is literally impossible to own a house.

In fact, there aren't any buildings at all! Just a big empty field with a bunch of Dutch milling about (get it? Milling about LOL i made a funnie)

You could live in a hotel forever, or rent a property there, if there are any!

so it's true? I want to move there once I get out of highschhool and learn botany over there. Really I want to learn more about CANNABIS but learning of other plants would be nice too.

hm well you dont have to live right in amsterdam if there were no houses or they were expensive there (totally believable since its a popular place) theres plenty of nice places in holland
i didnt actually think you could just go and live in another country aswell unless youve got a real good reason or family

It will be a very hard task to find new, developed homes in A'dam, as they are not building anymore homes due to the overpopulation, and the small size of Holland. I'm originally from Rotterdam, I use to live there but moved due its small, cramped living. People have even resorted to living on houseboats along the canals because there is simply no more room to build.

To give you an idea of how small Holland is, think about the size of Alberta, in Canada...Holland can fit into Alberta 51 times, but there is 14 million people living in Holland. Finding a home, for cheap, and at a nice, private, comfort level, will take time. If you are planning on leaving within a year or two, I would search now. Get use to small spaces and small places, because that is it. Good luck.

theres nothing wrong with living outside of amsterdam, go to rotterdam, den haag or even live on the outskirts like belgiu, only less than an hour on train to a'dam.

I have plans to retire to Amsterdam.Maybe not IN the city but close by.I have friends who live and work there.I consider Amsterdam and holland in general to be heaven on earth for an aging hippie like myself.

Doesn't matter about the quantity, only the qualtiy. Maybe thebeancounter doesn't post much but when he does it's usually and intelligent remark.

Without dissin' any Dutch people on here, I could not life in the Netherlands. Not even Amsterdam. I worked out in Zeist for 6 months or so and was so fed up with the place after that, I said I'd never go back unless for a weeeknd city break

The hype is true - Holland is very flat - so flat you'll start craving land features, and for the most part (not the rule, just the most part) forget gourmet cuisine, you in for a life of dairy products and ham/cheese/bread combinations.

Exactly. That's why my family moved away from Rotterdam when I was 15...too damn small. In Canada here, even in America, you can drive, and see mountains, plains, rolling hills, land for miles and miles. In Holland, cities are only 20min apart from each other. There is no hills, or mountains, or land for miles and miles. Everywhere you look, you will either a house, a mill, or a city. Very little space left to build and grow.

The food too is not great. Unless yes, you like cheese, not chedder cheese like around here, strong cheese, gross cheese. Forget about a good burger, expect fish, lots and lots of fish. No hotdog stands along the road, instead they have salted fish, a whole fish, head and all that each off a stick.

A'dam or Holland in general, would be a place to vacation for a few days, weeks, or even during the summer or something. Rent something out, as someone who is use to living in a country with such mass cities and land, Holland would be a cramped, uncomfortable place to live

Tokason, keep your stereotypical comments to yourself. I'd hate to start being a stereotype with Americans, but if you want to start, let me know.

i hear amsterdams good, but a tad bit overrated

if i were you, i'd plan to move to either germany or Switzerland. Switzerland, weed is practically legal there... your allowed to grow, and sell it in alot of places.

Amsterdam is too tourist... and i hear that amsterdam isn't even too big... you can supposedly walk through the city in 30 minutes.

Switzerland is beautiful from what i hear... switzerland is the top place on my list to visit when i'm outta HS

New Zealand also is a great place to live, not too expensive either...

my dads friend was talking about it, they said it's perfect climate and everything.

I'm planing on moving to Holland In bout year/2 time wants im sorted with college and that plus gather up some money as well. Ive also wondered is it possible to make a living buy just growing high quality weed and selling it to coffee shops and that, would the coffe shops even do that though? like the local coffee shop?
