You know, right after the computer boots, and it asks you to choose which name to log in to? Then maybe you can run uninstall, or remove it from "Add or Remove Programs" in Control Panel.

Interesting. You did run uninstall, and didn't try to flat out delete the folder's contents, right? Right click/deleting applications is going to leave your program in the registry, and other places where you don't want it.

I tried unistalling but said i didnt have the privilege so i randomly started deleted files from norton and then ran unistall again and it seems to have sorted itself.

So it worked? Congratulations.

That's why I prefer Linux. (It actually makes SENSE.)

O before u go how do i stop programs starting when my computer starts?

Well, there are a lot of places the startup information for an application can be.

First, I'd look for it in the registry.

Click start, then click "run". Type in "regedit". It's short for registry edit. Click Hkeylocalmachine, then software, then Microsoft, then Windows, then currentversion, then Run. (I had to check the exact location.. I had to delete a few entries there as well. Thanks for reminding me.) There will likely be a few entries in there. If the culprit you want to delete is in there, delete it. It should work.

Then you can check the startup folder. It's in the startmenu button under "All Programs". Remember, this is all assuming you're running XP.

If this doesn't work, check out Microsoft.com. You should find some help there.

Well the software that starts when I dont it to is Messenger and Bearshare. I did what you said but when I got to currentversion in your post it wasnt there but if I click software bearshare is on there do i just delete that?

CurrentVersion wasn't listed? It will be the first one after you double click Windows. Either you're in the wrong place, or your registry is broken! lol

"Software" as in the registry, or in the "Startup" folder in the start menu? If registry, no. Otherwise, yes.

You know, you could probably alter the startup status of those applications from their option menus. Just poke around in their menus for something like "run on startup" or "run on bootup" or something similar. I doubt you won't be able to.

Good luck!
