Will Mylr sheets burn so close to the lamp??? if so what is the best reflecter metal...aluminium??..My reflecters a cheapo,i want to enhance it ..but without attracting the fire brigade.. :D

Yes you can stick Mylar to a refelector. It's a bitch to get all the wrinkles out but it works. 3M spray on glue is what you need.

That was my problem.... I didn't find the 3M spray glue, so I bought Elmers' (the cow)... hasn't worked out as well...

But as to the crinkles, yeah, they're a bitch to get out... but I'd like to add my two cents...

My mylar-ed walls where full of wrinkles from my installation... but, after getting hit by the fan's air gusts constantly, after some days/weeks, the wrinkles have all but disappeared.

Let me clear it up: The heavy-duty wrinkles, the ones that have actually 'bent' or 'damaged' the mylar, well, no... those haven't gone away... but the smaller ones... like when the mylar stuck to the wood... those went away and the mylar is now hanguing almost wrinkle-less.

This isn't NASA-information... but $0.02 nontheless... :)

Z, I should have gone for the 3M... darn...

Most woman wear make up to enhance what little beauty they have...i will add mylar to enhance what little my budget can afford.... an expensive reflecter is not on the cards right now...so DIY it is... thanx guys!!

wouldn't reflectors come with mylar lining if it was safe and effective? I think your crazy. Mylar is part plastic. I think in time the heat from your bulb will break down the plastic, and whatever glue you use. If you need more light, buy a stronger bulb and ballast.
It's a bitch to get the wrinkles out of Mylar but I have used it a few times with 1000w HPS lights and bat wing reflectors. I had no problems like melting or burning at all. Manufactures would not use it because for them it's cheaper to use other material or even bake on finish then it is to hassle Mylar.

Hoods reflect light sure but they also reflect heat back to the plants as well so there is a balance that needs to be found using hood reflectors. It's a matter of working smarter not harder.

I've heard the lesser expensive reflectors can benefit from more reflection such as adding mylar. Now I know that it doesn't melt, It might come in handy to know that someday. For now I'll keep it on my walls. Thanks for the input.

Yeh totally...i might even construct a huge one from wood or thin metal and line it with Mylar..!

Just place Mylar on the walls & celing but don't make a refelector out of wood, Bad idea.
