What's up every body. I was planning on hand carving some wood pipes for christmas and was wondering what wood is good and what wood is bad. Is any hard wood O.K.
I know some woods are bad for smoking mears like fish and stuff because of the by-product in the smoke being poisonous, like ceader. I know any kind of evergreen would suck any way but was just wondering if any body has done this before.

I would'nt use it. First it is a very soft wood that will end up burning very easy. Second I use to smoke a lot of fish in a smoker and was always told not to use ceader because of some toxin in the smoke. I'm not sure what it is but it could have something to do with why bugs don't get into cedar clapboard on houses and why they also stay out of ceader mulch. Hope this helps.

For most carving things ash works really well. Ive worked with it before it carves really nice, ive even made a guitar out of it!
