I said girls because this is a question about birth control, and in my experience girls know more about it than guys.
You know how there's three weeks of hormone pills and one week of plecebos. My boyfriend wont have sex with me during the last week, when Im not taking the hormone pills. I am almost 100% sure that if you take your birth control every day, every month, you are still protected against pregnancy during this week. You get your period, but you dont ovulate. He doesnt understand this. But perhaps I am wrong. Does anyone know for sure?
I would have thought that the doctor, when I first started this birth control, would have stressed to use condoms or something during that week if it isnt protected.

i'm pretty sure it's protected, i'm not sure of how exactly but my wife is paraniod as shit of having another kid, so she got on birth control, and if i remember right when she was told there are 3 weeks of actual birthcontrol pills then the week of placebos she made damn sure you're just as protected durring that week, as you are on the other 3. i would suggest going to like webmd or something and trying to find info on how birthcontrol works, as that will probably also note that there's 3 weeks of the actual birth control and 1 week that's just placebos (i think it's so there's 1 pill a day everday so you don't forget, i think that's the only actual purpose of them) and what exactly that 1 week is for, and how it works....

Yeah, I was told that the placebos are just to help you remember. You can get birth control packages that dont have the placebos, you just wait a week to start the next one. I was also told that the purpose of a week without hormones is to allow your body to menstruate. The only I've never been given clear information on is whether that week is equally as protected as the rest.

well i'm pretty sure it is....cuz i doubt my wife would even allow me to get hard (yeah, she's that paranoid) durring that week....if it wasn't protected and i did, she'd probably cut it off...

The pills you're taking leading up to the Placebos will be good enough. A friend of my roommate (female/ex-g/f) doesn't even take her placebo pills, and she has lived with two guys and had a boyfriend before that, and she hasn't gotten pregnant (in (over) 5 years). The placebo pills are there just to keep you on your schedule of taking pills. Eventually, it will even out and you will have your period the same time you're on your placebos.

Hey powair, yes you are still protected. I dont even take a break, but just take my pills every day every month because my period causes me so much bother. But yeah, as long as you took the pill properly for the 3 weeks then its all good

I can't tell you girls firsthand, but your period should be worse when you start taking the pill. Unless you get the pill where you skip your period entirely, but you gain a lot of weight with that one.

No beachguy, your periods get lighter when you start taking the pill. Its recommended for girls with heavy or irregular bleeding.
If I come off my pill for a few months, all hell breaks loose and I end up just taking it constantly again.

Wow, SensiRide, I've been living with a girl for five years who has said that it's worse.
And you shouldn't stop taking it...it will screw up your cycles.
edit: Found this:
oral contraceptive
n.
A pill, typically containing estrogen or progesterone, that inhibits ovulation and thereby prevents conception. Also called birth control pill.
-----Seems like it promotes bleeding.
edit: I've been taking it for three years and everytime I get a cut, it heals really quick.

Ok, SensiRide, she woke up, and told me that I'm wrong. Her's hasn't been worse.
She said there are some girls where the pill makes it lighter, and some girls where it's normal.

Wow it never occured to me to not take that week break. I might do that. So it prevents you from having your period at all?

i dunno if that would be all that healthy tho, seems to me that you're supposed to get rid of certain things if you don't get pregnant (hence the period)...i'm not a doctor, but i would guess your body needs to ATLEAST do that if you don't get pregnant... if i was a woman, even a if a doctor told me it was ok, i dunno if i'd trust them.

Yeah, as long as you keep taking it, you dont get one
Sliptnotpsycho - Ive checked with my doctor and she says its ok, your period doesnt build up or anything but its best to take a break off them once in a while, but its not doing any harm.

i thought about this
if you stopped yourself from having your period one month, if you had sex the next month and got pregnant... would you have two babies from the 2 eggs? they wouldnt be twins cuz theyre not from the same egg/sperm
BAM!

i think he's just on the "better safe than sorry" side of the spectrum...
i dont really blame him... even if something is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy, there's always an "unknown variable" that can slip through...

My view on the pill where you don't get your period at all, is that you gain weight. That's what I remember hearing...
But I was wrong the last time, so... :stoned:
Was this... :stoned:
