Why do they have Sweet Home Alabama playing in the background if they're advertising Kentucky Fried Chicken?

I've seen the commercials a couple of times and noticed this as well. I remember reading or hearing something about KFC trying to break away from the word 'fried' to jump on this health bandwagon along with McDonalds, etc. That's why you never hear the ads actually say Kentucky Fried Chicken anymore, only KFC.

You knew this would happen.
Nothing could be bloodier than KFC's buckets of fried-chicken corpses. Each one contains the pain and suffering of innocent, gentle birds who were made to grow so quickly that the legs of many of them collapsed under their own weight and many of whom were killed by being drowned in scalding-hot water.

Tigers are cruel when they kill their prey. So are wolves. Don't forget we're meat eating animals. It's a completely natural thing. I refuse to believe that nature is at all evil in any way.
Euphoric
11-13-2005, 08:43 AM
Dude...tigers, wolves..sharks.. they dont torture their prey. Factory farmed animals are subjected to horror from birth to death. That's not nature's way. The meat industry creates more pollution by far than any other industry. NOT natural.
Besides, we evolved teeth to eat meat before their were alternatives. Soy products can be substituted for any meat product and it's just as good. These animals have the cognitive ability of small children. They like classical music. They can do math. Most importantly, they can suffer just as well as any of us.

I don't condone torturing animals. I don't condone marijuana being illegal either. If there's nothing I can do about it I don't see the point in stressing about it.
And there's no rushing evolution. We might come up with new technological innovations, but that is a completely different subject. Like Carlin says, we're barely out of the jungle.
And reply to Other Psychotropics. :p

I suppose that's true. I have no ethical qualms with eating meat. But I think I do have ethical qualms with supporting the corporate run meat farms that inject everything with hormones, and literally stack animals on top of each other in the pursuit of profit.

In fact though, you do condone. If you didn't condone it, you could just stop supporting it. What's the fastest way to stop supporting the current running of the meat industry? It wouldn't eliminate the industry all at once. But if more people made that choice, there'd be a change.
Just like how when there's enough responsible drug users out there, we might be able to change that too.
-edit- sorry about this, the first post was meant to be like, two posts back. The conversation was just developing faster than I anticipated... Didn't want it to seem like I was ranting on the subject...

not at all... I'm just asking if you'd ever thought of it this way? Larger scale so to speak. One particular avenue you've never wandered down perhaps. I learn something new everyday...
I don't know, in general I'd say I don't believe in absolutes... I just have this theory that if we all did our little part, "things" could get better fast.
Props to the people pick up trash from the beach, or eat veggie, or ride their bike to work rather than driving a car. It's not possible for everyone and I understand that, but as individuals we don't have to go along with a culture of waste...
hmmm, it sounds like I'm judging again at the end... not intentional. I just get too idealistic when i'm high at 4am...
lateralus
11-13-2005, 11:57 AM
Yes. Things would be better if the majority of us thought straight. Unfortunately, we're a minority. That's why I always say there's no hope for society, but there's hope for the individual.
Polymirize
11-13-2005, 12:03 PM
we're a whole society of individuals! surely there's hope? And even if there's not, if the actions of a single individual can make the whole experience better for just a single individual... isn't it still worth it?

There're just too many misinformed, and the numbers are growing. Everyone's misinformed about something. Nobody's perfect. I just don't see it getting any better.
That isn't to say there aren't tons of amazing people out there. We're rarely unified enough to do something about it, though.

11-13-2005, 12:13 PM

The problem i have with KFC has already been pointed out, however...if someone was to buy a kfc burger and put it infront of me, i would eat it. I have no qualms eating meat, it's just the way in which it's raised/killed etc. The reason i'd eat the burger is because otherwise it's just a waste, a) by eating something put infront of me i'm not contributing to the industry, i'm not being wasteful. b) kfc could easily afford to use much better quality chicken, raise them properly, not inject them with growth hormones and water, and subsequently would be giving better quality of life to the chickens and better quality food for consumers. However, one thing stands in the way...profit, and the fact that although they'll try and convince you otherwise...they don't give a fuck what you shove down your throat...

POWER OUTAGE BLAMED ON CHOKING DRIVER
NEWPORT, N.H. - A temporary power outage on Friday was blamed on a man who choked on a piece of food while driving. Police say Ronald Tinker, 40, was eating chicken when a piece got caught in his throat. He choked, blacked out and veered off the road, taking down a wire that was supporting a utility pole.
Tinker said the crash must have knocked the chicken out of his throat. He was taken to New London Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
