Patent issued for anti-gravity device

WASHINGTON, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. patent office has reportedly granted a patent for an anti-gravity device -- breaking its rule to reject inventions that defy the laws of physics.

The journal Nature said patent 6,960,975 was granted Nov. 1 to Boris Volfson of Huntington, Ind., for a space vehicle propelled by a superconducting shield that alters the curvature of space-time outside the craft in a way that counteracts gravity.

One of the main theoretical arguments against anti-gravity is that it implies the availability of unlimited energy.

"If you design an anti-gravity machine, you've got a perpetual-motion machine," Robert Park of the American Physical Society told Nature.

Park said the action shows patent examiners are being duped by false science.

I bet they already have some ships classified under the national security act!

"bending the curvature of space time" (as, appropriately, is required for artificial gravity)? I'll believe it when when I hear it from a credible and more well-known group.

maybe it is real...who knows...

i think that maybe its possible...but not with something so simplistic as technology

This little excerpt isn't exactly related, but it's sort of on topic...and I have to put it somewhere...

IT IS NECESSARY TO TRAVEL

"It is necessary to travel. It is not necessary to live." These words inspired early investigators when the vast frontier of unknown seas opened to their sails in the fifteenth century. Space is the new frontier. Is this frontier open to youth? I quote from the London Daily Express, December 30, 1968: if you are a fit young man under twenty-five with lightning reflexes who fears nothing in heaven or on earth and has a keen appetite for adventure don't bother to apply for the job of astronaut." They want "cool dads" trailing wires to the "better half" from an aqualung. Dr. Paine of the Space Center in Houston says: "This flight was a triumph for the squares of the world who aren't ashamed to say a prayer now and then." Is this the great adventure of space? Are these men going to take the step into regions literally unthinkable in verbal terms? To travel in space you must leave the old verbal garbage behind: God talk, country talk, mother talk, love talk, party talk. You must learn to exist with no religion, no country, no allies. You must learn to live alone in silence. Anyone who prays in space is not there.
The last frontier is being closed to youth. however there are many roads to space. To achieve complete freedom from past conditioning is to be in space. Techniques exist for achieving such freedom. These techniques are being concealed and withheld. We must search for and consider techniques for discovery.

Lol, as for the anti-grav machine, i dont believe it, i believe we will one day create artifitial gravity in space (without the aid of centrifugal force) but as for anit-grav, impossible.

Something you may find intresting tho, you can create a perpetual motion device quite easily by spining an object in a zero gravity vacume at a temp of -283 degrese C with no light touching it :D, (an enviroment such as space).

Thats false, first of all how would you get rid of the light in space? you could put it inside a big lead container or something i guess but there is still a small amount of gravity that is afftecting it and its not perpetual sorry. Also a perpetual motion MACHINE is not what you gave an example of, you gave an example of perpetual motion not something that works to create perpetual motion. The definition of a perpetual motion machine is something that produces more energy than it takes to produce that nrg. Therefore if you had a perpetual motion machine it would be able to start spinning it self an keep itself spinning without any interferance.
