Question (Day 17)

I left this question in Basic Growing, but it quickly got off track when people started focusing on my lights rather than the question i had, so i figured i would try posting in here.

Day 17 growing Northern Lights under 400W HPS (yes i know HPS is not optimal for veg). So far I am seeing incredible growth, already 5 nodes with a 6th looking like it is about to form (so it is a prett big plant).

My question, or concern rather, has to do with the first set of leaves turning yellow and apparently starting to die. I am not talking about the small round leaves (those have already died, which is normal). Is it normal/okay for the first true set of leaves to turn yellow and die? The rest of the plant looks great, every other leaf is pure green.

lack of nutes, is the tip yellowing first then going to the whoel plant or how is this working?

its only occuring in the first leaves. right now the whole thing is yellow. i know this is a sign of nut. deficiency but every single leaf on the plant is perfectly fine, and its a big plant, at least 50 leaves id say. would that still be nutrient related?

Just a guess but if its in soil then its probably due to low light or bug damage from when it was younger. The plant will eventually shed any leaves that are injured or non functional. If its hydro then I'll leave it to someone else to take a stab.

Hello JPG :) If it was my plant I wouldn't be concerned, it's normal for the bottom ones to die off ;)
Now if if the leaves were to start dying off above those then you might have a problem, but what you describe sounds normal to me :)

mand's got you covered don't worry about it, on a plant that big it's normal.

What do you think about removing these two leaves myself rather than waiting for them to die on their own?

Hello JPG :) Well you can take them off if you want too ;)
I usually don't bother but that's because I'm to lazy :o

To be honest I've removed quite a few limp and droopy ones of my present problomatic crop :( but I always think they are doing no good and are probably diverting energy from the rest of the plant ;) Not sure if this is right or wrong but it's my little way :)
