hahahhaha illinois isnt real redneck country (well south illinois is) I used to live in the north and it is closer (in terms of HF (hick factor)) to like minnesota than to say missisippi, but it is a lot more hickish than say.................. canada : )

Jimi started his early musical career as banjo player for Bill Monroe..... Monroe fired him after two weeks, because Jimi wouldn't cut his hair and wear a black suit and tie.The fuzz-wah pedal was also a factor in his termination.

John Hartford (http://www.johnhartford.com/) sure was a good Banjo player. Saw him perform one night back in the seventies. He had some kind of tap shoes on his feet...and some kind of platform with an electric pick-up in it that sent the sound of the tap shoes through the amplifiers. Never heard anything like it before or since. And he tap-danced while playing that Banjo.

ya i am a beginner banjo player. i love it though. i am trying to find some good banjo music to listen to besides bela fleck.

oh yeah... the Mandolin is another real pretty insrument. The way they strum those things is similar to the way Carlos Santana plays hie guitar sometimes.
