SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- A luxury liner sailing off the coast of Somalia fended off an attack by gunmen in speedboats early Saturday morning in an area notorious for piracy.
None of the mostly American passengers aboard the Seabourn Spirit were harmed but one crew member was lightly injured as they repelled the attackers without returning fire.
David Dingle, a spokesman for the Miami-based Seabourn Cruises, told reporters that the 302 passengers were shocked but unharmed.
"The passengers were mustered in a public room, told what was going on and reassured that we were fighting off the attack."
The crew used an on-board loud acoustic bang to fight off the attackers, leading them to believer they were under heavy fire.
In mid-October, the International Maritime Bureau warned ships to stay as far away as possible from the Somali shore.
Since March 2005, there have been 23 attacks against oceangoing vessels, including one against a ship delivering food from the U.N.'s World Food Program.
The Bahamian-registered Seabourn Spirit which originated in the Egyptian port of Alexandria, was on its way to Mombasa, Kenya but is now headed for Seychelles

DON'T WORRY FOLKS! I'm sure there is a logical explanation for all this! These people probably aren't terrorists but Bush, Cheney, Rice, and Blair trying to blow up the ship for an insurance policy and I'll bet there was an oil field close to this also! Ain't that right Pissy!!!
