Ok. So what was so great about the 80's? I was a small child in the 80's. But I remember some things about it. And I'm really into collecting stuff from the era. I love all of the brat pack movies. And I'm into the 80's music and clothing. Yeah I just came out of the closet with that one lol. But i'm not into the big hair. Anway anyone else find that they are particularily fond of the era?

The 80's...I miss so much from then. That's basically late childhood and junior high for me. Look at my avatar, I think she's a thirteenish girl in 1987 dancing to her favorite song at a dance at the YMCA. Notice the crop top...oh, the crop top...I rocked the hell out of crop tops. I had big hair, I admit it. The best is my 9th grade pic, I'm going to post it if I can find it. I was all about big hair and the Limited and I look totally pissed off at the world. The music...I loved the big hair bands. I met Bret Michaels! Aaaah, I've said too much. lol:)

I am not into big hair bands that much. I'm more into the electronic sounds of the 80's. Bands like A Ha and I really like The Smiths. I am into Blondie as well. She was great. I have noticed a lot of retro clothing that is comming out. I hope they never bring back the tight rolls or spandex. But I do like the retro look. The costume jewelry you can buy today is very retro. Lots of psychedelic colors. And they have the huge plastic bangle bracelets. And huge loop earrings that are different colors.

I love retro 80's new wave music. Maryjanemama, remember Missing Persons? I still spin that record, Walking in LA. lol I miss the boom in surfing and skating in the 80s. Building our own skateboards and bikes from crap parts that's we'd find in junkyards and on abandoned bikes. The 80's was my childhood. Early 80 punk and hardcore were the best!.

I wish I would have grown up in the 80's. The only good thing that came from the 90's was the grungE era. And slap bracelets. The 80's had ALF! And ET! I mean alf was the shit. "got cat?" LMAO. You had atari. It was the beginning of home computers in your living rooms. The big huge ones where the keyboard was attached to the monitor. No mouse and no number key pad to the right. The boom of arcade games such as pac man. Skateboarding took hold. I'm a big fan of roller skating. I never liked blading much. I'm not sure about nintendo. I think it came out in the 80's because I was very small when I first started playing it. But I can remember I loved to play skate or die lol. And look at the tony hawk games now and compare it to skate or die. OMG that's crazy.

Yeah, skateboarding! Sk8 or die, man! That is soooo funny. Remember the jams? Hobie and Ocean Pacific? Bugle Boys were cool and not available at Walmart, like now. REM was still considered alternative and Natalie Merchant was still a 10,000 Maniac. And the late 80's and Guns N Roses broke through and everyone loved them. Ooooooh, Duff Mc Kagen! And Motley when Vince was still thin...and Van Halen before Van Hagar...and Sebastian Bach! Hahahaha. Love letters in the sand, I'll remember you! Nancy this is such a good thread...I'll get stoned and post on here a lot as I remember more.

Care Bears!!!!!!! Garbage Pail Kids trading cards. OMG I loooove garbage pail kids. I collect the new edition. But I can remember being small and buying packs of the garbage pail kids trading cards back in the day. My bf recently gave me a bunch of extras of his old 80's collection. They are the shit. Cindi Lauper. Footloose movie. GREAT movie. I love it.

Yeah I remember everyone had super bright flourecent colors all the time. I remember the Ice cream man in the summer. Remember that Fat Frog ice cream bar!!! I remember when you could get 25cent ice cream. And when WWF came on Saturday morning and Hulk Hogan would wrestle John Smith, who the hell was John Smith??? I remember when you could go to the toy store and they had a gun section that looked like a real gun shop!!!
nancythestuntbum
07-07-2004, 07:42 PM
Yeah they had a rather nice selection of toy guns and grenedes. I remember buying hot wheels every time I went to wal mart. I had this little robot. I forgot his name. But there were cards you could slide into the front part of his body and it would ask you questions. And you could push one of the buttons on the side of him to answer. And he lit up and stuff. He was cool as shit. But I forgot his name. But my favorite toy was legos. Legos are awesome. I should buy some more. I could play with those for hours. Remember wrestling buddies? I had a hulk wrestling buddy lol. And I hate wrestling! But the buddies were cool. You could be whatever buddy you had and then your friend could be whatever buddy they had and you could square off and beat eachother up and throw eachother around. We always used a trampoline as our wrestling ring. lol.

I remember I had Scooby Doo Underoos and Wonder Woman. I was run around in my Wonder Woman Underoos and Wonder Women flip flops and pretend I was her. My first pair of roller skates were Strawberry Shortcake. I loved Strawberry Shortcake dolls and the cartoon and the books. Purple Grapes! My first lunch box in 1980 was Holly Hobby and metal. Does anyone else remember their luch box? Now my kids have Care Bears! I remember the hell my family went through to get me a Cabbage Patch Kid in the days when ppl were beating each other up in the store for one.

What the hell is up with Evil Dead and Evil Dead2. It's like the director decided he totally fucked up the first movie, so he'd change things a little, get rid of the large group of people and attack it again with a bigger budget for effects. Oh and I had Darth Vader rollerskates Maryjanemama!

Hey, Mysterywhylay, the guys in Duran Duran were HOT! Give me Simon Le Bon in full make up anyday! I don't think you have anything to be ashamed of. Have you seen Robert Smith of the Cure, lately? They have a new video and he is still wearing the full face of white make up, red lips, and eyeliner! You'd think he'd be over it, by now...Besides, I have a friend who admits to once sporting the Flock of Seagulls hair cut! Now, there is just NO excuse for that one.:p

ahhh the 80's i was just a kid yet loved the cartoons I just got my daughter a huge stawberry shortcake doll she loves has no idea who she is but it was more for me anyways. what was the cartoon where there where animals that turned into a big robot when you snapped the toys together? was that tundercats! that was a good one too. i guess what i remember the most is this retro shirt i had loved it wore it all the time, it had a picture of this girl on it really dorky now that i think about it but i was soooooo sad when we had a fire in our house and it burned up. i cried for like week over that shirt.. it was a cool time to be a kid, did anyone else play games like ghosts in the graveyard and kick the can. the kids i know nowadays don't have a clue what i am talking about when i ask if they know how to play. good games that were played outside and we got lots of exercise. gee this is kinda making me wish i was a kid again.

Maybe evil dead 1 did come out in the early 80's. But I know it was filmed in the 70's. I have the collectors edition and it talks about filming and the set and it talks about it being filmed in the 70's. I never played ghosts in the graveyard or kick the can. But I played a lot of dodgeball.

August 1981, I got cable and there was the coolest thing ever on there, (besides the occasional flashes of nudity when the dirty channel straightened out for a second)...
it was MTV!

All I can remember positive from the 80's are the Dark blue denim jeans girls used to wear, damn cute girls that turned me on SO MUCH! I mean these things were a lot darker than anything today, dark and kind of shiny almost and worn so tight! Ah yes! And what about those shiny space suit type of things? man those were great too! why can't they make all shiny glisteny gleaming clothing now? Of course those little tiny shorts for guys, that I am glad is gone hope it is gone forever!!! Other than that the music really sucked except for the freaky farout robotic shit! Bring back the spandex [I mean the tight black pants not those ridiculous leotard things] and superslutty women oh yeah! and what the hell are tight rolls? HAHAHA PEACE

I love the 80's. The music, music television, the movies, the cheesyness. Anything went. Mtv played music and was on half a day. Pac-man, Ms. Pac-man!!! and my favorite, the over-extensive use of neon colors. Kangaroos tennis shoes, ah, man. My hair was always shaved, though, but, i listened to hair bands, not that much, though, but my most favorite were the girl bands a.k.a., Romeo Void, Siouxsie and The Banshees, and The Plasmatics, the Pretenders.

Howdy nancy,
The 80's was a good time for me,my daughter, was born in 1980, and I made more money in the oil patch, than any other time. I also had a valuable experience in the 80's,when I went to Saudi and drilled water wells,I learned after that experience, just how great a nation America is,and how blessed I am to be an American. I also became disabled during the last of the 80's..and that part, sucked. The best thing about the 80's,was my daughter being born, and Ronald Reagan, saving America, after Carter..as well as Reagan bringing down the Soviet Union and the Berlin wall.
Have a good one...

to hell with the hairdo's what about them jeans! HAHAHA
My favorite jeans had zippers at the bottom and black lace all the way up to the knee. I also had a matching black lace cropped jacket with shoulder pads. One day I was doing laundry and I spilled bleach on the jeans...I was devastated.
