I just got back from Denver and man it's a party up there right now. I was so weird going into a bar, ordering a drink and lighting up a joint! I was expecting the DEA to rappel down out of the rafters and arrest me! I think I'm going to take up my buddy's offer for me to move in with him.
As for the state passing a similar law, I'm not too sure. Not everywhere in the state is as like minded.

Why is it that when Denver legalizes it, some dude from Colorado uni. releases some pro-Marijuana bullshit. Which by the way, I find incredibly hard to believe...
But anyways, why now when it's legalized do they spout all that shit? There is some fucking plot going on, you'll all see!1 We'll all be smoking BUT there will be some kind of catch. I sure hope not, though... of course.

Something great happened yesterday, and how there are people still nay saying it is sad. Denver metro police wouldn't dare arrest people and charge them under state law, for the charges would be dropped because they would be circumventing the laws they swore to uphold. Furthermore, it would weaken the authority of all city/municipal laws, creating a precedent that local law enforcement wouldn't dare to touch.
Mayor Hickenlooper and the DA's saying that these charges would still be prosecuted is a scare tactic. A passive aggressive way of saying that the voters don't matter, and they're going to do whatever they want. Sure they might arrest someone using this tactic, but I can almost guarantee you that they won't be found guilty.
This reminds me of a little while back, where a sheriff in California kept arresting medical users after prop 215 passed saying that it was still illegal on a federal level. Not one of the people he arrested were found guilty.
The point is the power structure in Denver is pissed that the voters didn't vote the way they wanted them to, and right now they are in a childish frame of mind. They're thinking something that is fundamentally wrong. That the voters of the fine city of Denver aren't the bosses of them. Sooner or later, through public out cry or the votes themselves, they will realize that it's the voters who decide who's a criminal or not.

Oh, and here's a quote from the man who is actually in charge of arresting people.
"If they vote to pass it, we'll follow the will of the people."
-- Capt. John Kilpatrick, Denver Police Department vice and drug bureau, August 17, 2005, in the Fort Collins Weekly
This is why "they weren't arrested".

"Alcohol-Marijuana Equalization Initiative
WHEREAS, according to the National Institutes of Health, an average of 317 Americans die annually as the result of alcohol overdoses; and
WHEREAS, there has never been even a single fatal marijuana overdose recorded in the medical literature, as noted by the British Medical Journal in September 2003; and
WHEREAS, according to U.S. Department of Justice, â??About 3 million crimes occur each year in which victims perceive the offender to have been drinking at the time of the offense. Among those victims who provided information about the offenderâ??s use of alcohol, about 35% of the victimizations involved an offender who had been drinkingâ?; and
WHEREAS, extensive research, documented in official reports by the British government's Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs and the Canadian Senate Special Committee on Illegal Drugs, among others, shows that -- unlike alcohol -- marijuana use is not generally a cause of violence or aggressive behavior and in fact tends to reduce violence and aggression;
WHEREAS, it is the intent of this ordinance to have the private adult use and possession of marijuana treated in the same manner as the private adult use and possession of alcohol;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY AND COUNTY OF DENVER"
The legislative purpose of this initiative is to make the use and possession of less then one ounce of marijuana non-punishable under Denver city ordinances for adults 21 and older.
This means that anywhere you can drink alcohol, you can possess up to one ounce of marijuana. I'm done trying to convince you assholes something you should already know, this is a good thing. If you want to keep trying to find a flaw in this triumph, go ahead. I, on the other hand, am going to party my ass of in Denver this weekend. I'll keep all of you in my thoughts as I legally smoke marijuana.

yep. Private. that's right.
And I read somewhere that the Chief of Police of Denver agreed to leniency. But that doens't stop the state and the nation.
