I started carving a pipe tonight, my stepdad's teaching me how to carve. This is my first one. Not my last most definitely. What do you guys think so far? By the way, its not finished. I have to put Caruso on the other side and some mushrooms around it. And I might put a mouth smoking the joint on the side.. or a mini rastafarian or something.

Nice. After you finish it you can lacquer it so the wood doesn't burn when you smoke. Just make sure to use food-grade stuff so you aren't inhaling anything nasty/harmful.

Guys, I actually was thinking of making and selling them. This one I made from a branch from a pear tree in my yard. But the one thing I'm still trying to figure out is price.. I don't have any overhead besides time (and it takes a long time to make one of these) and slices. So whatever my time and my skin is worth is how I'll sell'em for. :)

But seriously, how much would you guys be willing to pay for a custom piece. I can do pretty much anything as long as its not TOO detailed. Examples: Skulls, logos, words, names, mushrooms, heads.. I can even do one in the shape of a dick for the ladies (or some of the men). You inhale through the head and the bowl is the balls. Complete with veins and pubic hair! ;)

My next piece I'm planning on doing for myself after this on is going to have a skull and crossbones with an eye patch and a pirate hat and then probably bones crossing or something going up the side. And I also want to do one with the head of Zeus on the bowl, and clouds and lightning bolts going down the side.

I'm not taking orders yet, there will be a new topic when I get ready to start taking them. First come, first serve. When I finish it, you send the money and I send the pipe once I receive it. And for extremely difficult pieces I'll probably charge more.. just depends on what you want.

So.. how much would you buy one for?

id pay 40-50 depending on size, shape. If you could make a bong about a foot in height id pay around 80.. is that reasonable or?

That's very reasonable, and I think I could do a bong too.. I'm not sure, I'd have to see if I have a drill bit. The hardest part is finding a piece of wood the right shape. But my grandpa just cut down a huge oak tree today so that shouldn't be hard. Oh and to let you guys know.. these pipes are 100% fully functional and 100% safe to smoke out of. When they are cored I put a bamboo insert in for the bowl. Bamboo will not burn under the heat of a lighter and does not emit toxic fumes. So they are capable of lasting a lifetime as long as you don't light the rest of the pipe on fire. I also can either paint them and then clear coat it or stain it (which is what I'm going to do to mine). I use to paint before I started carving, so I can do a good job painting as well. Let me see if I can find an old painting I did. Ah, here it is! ":cool:

Oh yea, I also do walking sticks/canes. I'm doing one for my Dad for Christmas. It's going to have a laughing skull with flames around it on the handle. The mouth will be cut in to the wood deep enough where your thumb or finger can fit in his mouth to hold it easily. I'm going to do an HD below the skull in fancy letters and then do Harley on one side and Davidson down the other. I'll post a pic of that when I finish, but that'll probably take awhile. I don't know if I'm going to even bother selling the canes cause they take really long to do and are also a bitch to ship... but you know, if the price is right, then I might just make an exception.

EDIT: Oh yea, I did that painting before I started smoking, so I had no idea what a real leaf looked like.. Thats why it has like a bajillion fucking leaves hahaha.

I bought this pipe from a Cheyene Indian in Oklahoma last year. Deer antler for the bowl. Dogwood for the stem. He sells them on consignment at a trading post.

(the motorcycle was made in Vietnam out of nuts, bolts, pipe joints, wheel bearings, bicycle-chain link, etc.) Bought that from a street vendor in San Diego.

Ok, I tried to make a bong tonight and it won't work.. Wood just wasn't meant to hold water ya know? And I don't feel like going through all the work waterproofing it.. no one would want to pay how much I'd charge for a bong anyways. Over a $100 at least for a 1-footer.. but if someone really wants one, and is willing to pay that much, I'll consider it.

well I found a great piece of wood that I was gonna do it out of. But I chucked it after I decided it wouldn't work. But it was a tall oak log about 6 inches around, and then it had 2 short branched like feet coming off it. I was gonna make one of the branches a stump and then carve a rastafarian smoking a J sitting on it, with his legs as the other branch. The carb would've been the cherry of the joint. I might still do it, fuck it if it holds water well or not... that'd just be badass to have.
