I am just reading up about this on the norml website and....what?
How can something be illegal to possess and grow, yet we are supposed to pay taxes on it?
I would strut down there in style and pay cash gladly should there be no fear of getting my door busted down shortly after paying taxes on my illicit substance. If they won't let me have the right to pursue my own brand of happiness as a free adult in this nation then why should I pay some dumb ass tax in order to help them out?
I would like to pay my taxes like a good little citizen; here is some of my money, please put me in jail now.

and as an aside, I would like a stamp from every state now to stick in my scrap book. Nebraska's stamp is badass!

Is it a tax you have to pay to help the war on marijuana?

Hi Scarlett, I was checking that out on NORML's website recently, too. If I understand correctly, it's just a way of adding an additional penalty when someone's arrested & charged with possession. Not only do you get charged with the crime for possession, but you also get a fine (or maybe charged with tax-evasion?) for not having the stamp... It's just another f**ed up way for the government to screw you for being in possession of god-given plant material! I'd like to collect them, too, but I don't know if you can actually go buy one... I'd be too paranoid to try.

In Tn. they sell the Tax stamp, most from out of state buy them for there collect . when someone's arrested & charged with possession the fine is about 1/2 of what it be. and if you don't have it It is ( tax-evasion)..

Tax stamps are an attempt to charge drug "offenders" with tax-evasion. Why is this important? Because being convicted of tax-evasion means they can confiscate various forms of property, be it your car, your home, or what-have-you. In many states these laws have even withstood constitutional challenges. It is a dangerous and irresponsible form of legislation designed to "get" lawbreakers by any means necessary.

Ignore them. Buying tax stamps is nothing more than self-implication and sets a dangerous precedent.

Edit: It's almost comical how the US Government fails to recognize that legitimate taxes on cannabis would prove very profitable. Yet it continues to endorse these tactics.

Creating the Marijuana Tax Act (http://www.dhm.de/museen/hanf/hemp9132.htm) in 1937 was the government's first attempt a blocking marijuana from it's potential users by making it so the only way you could posses or sell marijuana, is by purchasing a tax stamp. The catch was that the government wouldn't sell any stamps, in affect making the possession of marijuana illegal.

I have always felt so, those "sin taxes" we pay could be levied on many other things that we as free adults should have a choice in. I would gladly pay outstanding taxes on my marijuana ciggerettes if they where legal. ;)
I also think prostitution should be legalized too, those ho's need to be paying into the system and be regulated into taking regular std tests.

It is amazing to me how US has made a nation of criminals and "off the books" employees. Our gov. could be bursting with cash if they where a little more permissive and allowed them to be contributing members of society.
