tastes better?

Yeah, but why? I'm pretty sure that taste is just a matter of opinion, and that we've grown accustomed to the taste of cooked food and just then grown to like it.. But why do it in the first place?
i dont....if i come home late one evening and my mum has decided to cook for me i wont bother heating it up...ill just eat it cold.....anything......like roasts, fuckin anything.....it all tastes the same to me....
does heating up food actually make it taste any different?

I've often thought about how the cavemen (or whoever) somehow got the idea of throwing food on a fire.. or making coffee (let's take beans that taste like SHIT, throw some water in it to make SHIT WATER, and.. heat it up! I love coffee, btw). Maybe someone just dropped their dinner on the fire one night, said "ug this easier to chew! and tasty too!" or something.

Yeah and who thought about throwing ground rocks (salt) on their food? I'd like to pinpoint the salt/fire phenomenon.

I know the real answer, allow me to share!
Everything edible will have it fullest flavour, and strongest taste at 32 degrees C :D
It's the truth, i learnt it in science!
Some shit to do with all the flavour and molecules and shit being released.. whatever the reason, it's true:D

3 Sheets, I find it really hard to believe that every kind of edible substance releases is flavour at the same temperature. Lol
Err, lateralus, people discovered salt tasted good on food because they used to use it to preserve meat. Duh. :p

When did people find out salt preserved meat? I'd like to pinpoint this salt phenomenon.

i was just sitting here after a smoke and listening to music and the answer hit me like that as soon as i previewed the thread. its simply because when the food was made, everyone forever has always just eaten it after its cooked. so then were used to eating it warm. so if its gotten cold from sitting out we just warm back it up.

Cooking food kills off any germs and bacteria that may be in food. So there is probably a health reason behind why we like hot foods. Who figured this out way back when is beyond me. Probably some caveman dropped his wooly mamoth burger in the fire by accident and when he pulled it out thought it tasted better. Sice he liked the taste better he started doing it all the time and then noticed he wasn't getting the stomach cramps and explosive diarhhea anymore. "Ugg like fire meat, Ugg no like shit flying from Uggs ass, Ugg only eat fire meat from now on"
Just a theory.............

3 sheets had the right idea.
Its because of fat, especially animal fat. We heat up food (savory, like meat, pizza, etc) thats been in the fridge or room temperature because that fat has hardened. Hardened animal fat is not even close to as tasty and juicy as liquified savory fat.
Fat is also the same reason we let meat and other savory foods rest when removing them from the oven. The fat needs to thicken enough so it doesnt all run out of your dinner upon the first cut, making the rest of your food dry and not as savory.
Same with cheese. You would never have cold hard cheese at a cheese and wine tasting party. Cheese needs to be room temperature because the fat releases more flavor at room temp(which is very much appreciated among cheese connoisseurs) than if it were cold.
With things that are sweet, fat adds body and richness but the flavor is more in the sugars and such (like vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon, mint, all sweet spices and such that compliment sugar), not the fats.

Howdy GhostToker,
The reason we heat food up,is that it often contains greases that need to be warm and free-flowing..like chilli for instance, you wouldn't want to eat cold hard grease on the top of the chilli, would ya ? Also, heating food helps to blend and bond, the flavors together..some food simply needs to be heated,in order to be palatable.
Have a good one !

mmmm..I'm eating thai-style chilli, torches the average white boy hahah.
But if you want to breathe some real fire, get 911 buffalo wings and Cluck-U-Chicken. I have a huge tolerance to spice, and still burns on the first bite!
