Ok, we've been setting up a ghetto grow, and we have been germinating seeds. We've got 2 reasonably healthy looking little seedlings. We bought a light in, a 125w CFL, tinfoiled up the cupboard, and now we're rolling. We'll put some pics up in the next few days, and we'd greatly apprieciate any input on how to improve things, what we're doing wrong, etc. Think of this as an interactive online grow :p ! Thanks :rasta:

Problem doesn't look like overwatering, leaves are usually firm and curled down not limp like that due to cells being turgid. With the browning and crispiness, the same problem happened to me not too long ago, I left the plant to dry out a bit then flushed, noticed significant improvement

Can you answer some questions for us...
-The carzy leaf going brown kinda round the edges, this has been happing to quite alot of the sets. Not so much on the bush at the bottom. Any ideas.... nutrients?
-Can it been seen as to what sort of strain we have? Indica/sativa? The seeds were random ones, we have no idea what they are.... any information anyone could provide would be good to know.
-Do you think it should be re potted soon? In a bucket maybe?
-And gender, we are still unsure about. The camera is shit so we can get good pics....
This is our first grow so we dont know massive amounts....

The plants look alright, with as little knowledge and experience I think your doing quite a good job. I'd check the soil ph, and make sure that your using the correct amount of nutrients. Too much nutrients can kill a plant, so can too much water. Root systems need a clean (free of parasitic fungi) oxygenated, and nutrient rich environment to survive. Overwatering a plant promotes anarobic bacteria growing around the root system and the suffication of root systems. This can be prevented by a well designed watering schedule and protected soil. The introduction of mycorhizal fungi would greatly increase yeild, health, and growth rate of the plant. Check out a product called mycogrow. Thats only if you want to abandon your ghetto grow nature and move to a more professional and scientific method of soil growing.
Basically check that the soil is nutritious but not too nutrious.
Then create a good watering schedule with clean water, (not tap water depending on where you are this can greatly hinder growth)
Then do what you can to protect the root system from fungi and bacteria.

cheers for the reply! we haven't actually fed it FUCK ALL so far, just watered it.... we were wondering if we should re-pot soon...i think the pot is actually restricting growth right now...
but we're ghetto growers through and through...we want to see if it can be done on a very tight budget....as i was made redundant/sacked on monday we don't got no mo dolla...

At it's present size I dont see a point in you transplanting to a larger pot.

all rifgt last stand..
something is wrong.. lets figure it out..
I think Syrrus mentioned over watering .. and that is a good place to start....
I would transplant... your still vegging correct?
3-5 gallon pot.. mix with 20-30% perlite....
Keep the light close to your plant (1 inch)... cfl.. correct?
The plant just isn't thriving.. and it should be...
After you transplant it without disturbing the roots, give it a good watering... 130 ounces of ph'd water... 6.0-7.0.... keep the temperature at 70-80 degrees.. and leave it alone for 5-7 days.. let the soil get pretty dry....
then post some pics..
unfrotunatley I am leaving for a month to a place where there are non computers...
sounds like syrrus can help.. but he also seems like he is to smart for the job... uses big words and stuff..LOL
i love you.. and syrrus
and star child..and zandor.. and turtle
and well you get the picture

And some more...
We just re potted a few days ago. This plant has been growing in Veg stage for about a month nowm not 100% sure of time.
Looks for experienced growers to give advice on our plant, and tell us there thoughts.
Also, i have taken a picture of a yellowing/browning leaves, this has happend to the sets below them (now pulled off) and the sets below them. Any information on why this could be happening would be good.
And... how long do you think we should keep it in veg stage. We estimated another 2 weeks or so, untill we flower? What do you think? Longer?

I would predict it to be for 5 - 6 weeks..!:)
WeedyBoyWonder
12-06-2005, 02:33 PM
Yea your correct. Its roughly 4 to 5 weeks now. Its it a good size? OR a little small/bigger than an avg plant?

Err well, i dont have no tape measure... so....
From where its comming out of the soil, to the top, it roughy 1 and 1/3 to 1 and 1/2 playstation games high! (One and a third - One and a half)
I think we wanna get it bigger (about another 2 weeks veg) so we get more bud on it...

I would recommend LST as the secondary branching looks poor. You should be able to get more yield this way. And also distribute the light more evenly.
WeedyBoyWonder
12-06-2005, 05:53 PM
what's LST mate?
MaraJawanna
12-07-2005, 12:27 AM
Your plants look good one give them about 2 or three more weeks and she's good
WeedyBoyWonder
12-07-2005, 12:55 AM
If we carry on using are CFL and just switch to red light spec, will be get good enough buds? What do you think the yeild would be like of a plant like this after 2 more weeks of veg, and 7 weeks of flower?
elcheapo
12-08-2005, 09:16 PM
LST is low stress training. Or tying down. Should make a big difference on yields under CFLs if done properly. Check out Bobbongs threads or even my first indoor CFL grow. The amount of bud you'll get will depend on a lots of factors. For example how healthy the plant is, how much light you can supply to the whole canopy, what strain the plant is, how long you veg for, C02 levels, ventilation etc etc. The list goes on.

12-23-2005, 05:38 PM
LST means you need to tie the main cola (stem) down so that the side branches get direct light and grow more. Each of these little brances are infact a seperate weed plant growing. So the more these grow, the more bud you'll get. Goodluck.
EDIT: It actually stands for Low Stress Training. So like bend it down little by little. Other than that I think the plant is great for having just one cfl with just water.
More pix please. How they looking?

hey, how many watts of cfls are you using?
the last stand
12-25-2005, 10:39 PM
we're using 125w CFL
amstron
12-25-2005, 11:08 PM
is that an energy saver that actually uses like 25watts but gives out the equivelent of 125 watts of incandescent or an actual 125 watt cfl
if the second statemnt where did u get it?
WeedyBoyWonder
12-26-2005, 12:54 PM
Its a maxi grow cfl, and we got it at a propper grow shop not like a hardware store. I think it is giving out all 125 watts, it cost £20 for shade, and then £25 for each color spec bulb. So...
amstron
12-27-2005, 10:47 AM
ye, that sounds about the right sort of price for an actual 125 watt fluoro, its just that some of them say that but are actually only 25 watt energy savers.

01-07-2006, 07:05 PM
do you have a ph adjust kit???? make sure your water is a ph of 6. do you have a tds meter??? I prefer using promix soil and feeding nutes as needed. Foxfarm "grow big" for vegging and "Tiger Bloom" for flowering works exellent and is very easy to use.

you haven't updated in 9 days, have you given up or just been lazy?
WeedyBoyWonder
01-15-2006, 01:31 AM
now its 75 cm tall, and we still arnt budding.
i ajusted the light to the bottom half of the plant hanging verticaly down the side, and am going to rotate it everyday to try and get the secondry branching bigger ^_^ it is a beast of a plant, but i dont think if we only change the color spec of the maxi 125w cfl we have, it wont bud much, and be real long and thin.
... help?

01-15-2006, 12:29 PM
Ok maybe it is time to buy another CFL? you have been in 12/12 for about 2 weeks right? well thats okay but you should just keep looking very closely for white hairs or balls at this stage. I would love to see a picture :D
