With a halogen light you're going to cook your plants... literally. Literally. Literally.
I've seen chicken roasting ovens that use halogen lights as their heat source. As their heat surce!
If possible, get some CFLs (flourescents) for the vegetative stages, than a HPS for flowering. If you've got the $, buy a MH. Use the CFLs for seedlings, then use MH for vegetative... then, use HPS for flower.
What'da think?

CFLs you can get almost anywhere... they're the energy saver bulbs... The ones that light up white... The ones that come in long tubes (4 feet tubes, circular tubes, etc.).
And HPS, well, do an internet search (maybe froogle)... there are some really cheap systems out there.
I understand you only need light for a 3x4 spot... but honestly, don't use that halogen... you're going to fry everything.
Best to you,

Ok so here's the deal. i'm an out door kinda man but i realy relay like to grow so for the winter i decided to do some stuff inside. i'm not even planning to fowerer. i'm just germ some seeds and select the etter genetics and clone those plants. i get to try cloning for the first time YAY. i will then sell the clones and save them for the summer and put them out side.
so basicly for the germination process untill i get some leaves i am useing 2 28watt bulbs with mini balasts. supper cheap from lows. i'm going to get more light in like a week or so. i'll post pics when i get a cable for my camera.

NO HALOGENS...you can get cheap cfl's at wally's 42-45w/150 for 8-9 bucks...I am going to post 2 pix of my BBxJH and Misty blues under 3 of these lamps/just for veg...
You can go to home depot, now; and get some 100-150w cfl's for 25-35 bucks I believe...home depot also carry 250 and 400 MH lamps now.
Some people say that cfl's don't work, but if you want to learn to grow, you can definitely grow using these lights. You will just have a smaller yield, than HID's...
JUST FOR THE RECORD: Lights you can use to grow with from weakest to strongest...i.e., what you can use; right through to what, you should use...for the best results...
2/4 foot tube fluoros...for; seedlings/veg
cfl's...(spiral)/(security light-minimum of 42-125watts 8-40 bucks for; seedlings/veg
cfl's...full spectrum/dual spectrum...90-120 watts 70-120 bucks for; seedlings/veg
small HID lamps, this includes MH (metal halide ) and HPS (high pressure sodium)...80-250 watts 15-80 bucks (limited upgrade bulbs available at this size) for; veg/flower
Big HID lamps 400-1000 watts 15-140 bucks (you can get cheap bulbs, but the light spectrum won't be as wide, limiting growth potential)
Good bulbs are fuller in spectrum, have enhanced spectrums, and generally have a higher lumens output... for; veg/flower...
conversion bulbs can be purchased when you only have 1 light and want change MH(veg) to HPS(flower) or vice versa...these are the highest priced bulbs 120-150 bucks...
I know this goes beyond your question, but so many of you little sprouts, just don't get the lighting issue, yet; so I thought I would try to clear it up for you with this simple little guide...remember,the first rule of growing indoors; imho; You cannot be 'chincy' with your lighting, unless you just want a couple of joints to brag about...hope this helps

i can't find a ficture or the bulbs for such a high watage florescent bulb.i found a 65watt bulb but no fictures that it would fit into. soo what i got was 3 fixtures. 2 have 28watt cfl's and one has some sylvania grow bulb. i don't think it is the best but it does make heat and i neaded a little bit of that in my room. i aprecaite our help. ohh and i am adding more light once they get past the seedling stage.
maybe some feed back.
I'm not that inexperienced i've tried to grow for the last 4 years. i've learned alot.i had my first success last year with the out doors. this is just for some indoor fun because i love to grow. and i want to get a major head start on next summer. i'll have soo many little babies for may!!!
