is there any other use for the leaves, as my plant is due a trim

depending on the cycle. If you are talking harvest then bubble hash is what you do with the trim.

i have heard something about boiling them, is this bubble hash?

I think that it is the very small fuzz on the leaves [which in your pics look mostly white] that you should look at to turn orange, these are the trichomes, where most of the THC is. The big orange fibres in your pics are the actual flowers of the bud. I think you have maybe 1 or 2 or maybe 3 weeks left, I dont have a lot of experiance.
