View Full Version : Quick question: Are you honest...

Ousted

Are you honest with your doctor about your drug use?

If you are do you downplay your drug use, or are you completely 100% real about it with him/her?

If you are completely 100% honest, how does your doc react to your honesty?

Thanks in advance for your replies. :)

Never been asked, never needed to!

I'd say they'd be cool with it, but probably advise you to quit for your own health, and then if you don't they will probably say "It's your choice anyway":D

I've told my doc I smoke a lot and I also asked him about my few encounters with DXM and whether or not I should be worried about my future health. He said it wasn't the smartest thing but I shouldn't worry about it because I didn't do it enough. Just ask him something like "everything we discuss is completely confidential right? are there any situations where you'd be required by law to break this confidentiality?" Thats exactly what I did and my doc said "Yes this is confidential and only if I think you may be suicidal."

I know therapists and psychiatrists are required to get medical help for clients who admit to hurthing themselves physically (drug use is not hurting yourself according to them) but that won't affect you. And if you're uber paranoid just tape record him saying everything is confidential and if you get arrested, bring that shit up in court and you'll be taken care of.

I don't have a Doctor, currently, but I went through a couple, one year. The second one kept trying medicines, until he found one I liked, and then added another, that I liked. On my forms, I marked that I'm a user, but I never told him that I smoked weed daily on top of the drugs, he gave me.

I told my paralegal, though, my lawyer had sent me to that Doctor. That may have affected the outcome of my lawsuit, because I only received minimal "pain and suffering".

I thought that if you told them you were doing somthing illegal they were required by their policy/legislation (whatever [possibly law?]) to tell a peer or the police?
And its the same for suicide i believe....if you tell them you are going to kill yourself and they dont tell anyone or get help then im pretty sure they go down for assisting the death....

i should really know but my lazy stoner mind tends to drift when being told about things i dont particularily care about....so this infomation may not be 100% correct but im sure i got told this....

ok i looked through some notes from a class last year and the doctors have the right to break the confidentiality policy....if
you are going to put yourself at risk or put others at risk then they may breach the confidentiallity policy....
so yeah its only for death or serious harm in the uk......i thought it was for anything against the law but......not :)

as for telling my doctor about using weed....i would if he asked...and id probly say i used it every day, if he needed to know.....

What about going to hospital with bullet wounds? Don't the police have to get involved?

I am honest with my doc. He cant give the info to anyone so it doesnt matter what he knows. I am a diabetic and have had questions concerning my use combined with insulin. There are not many answers available to me on the subject, but my doc is at least aware of the situation and on the lookout for answers for me. I also take meds for bi-polar and he doesnt seem to have a problem with it and neither does the perscribing psych. I find that most psychs, whether iatrists, ologists, otherapists, have little to no problem with marijuana use. And those that do, prefer to deal with a policy of dont ask, dont tell after the first time the question is posed. If you have a doc that wants to be on your ass all the time about it, its time to look for a different one. They dont have a legal obligation to the authorities, especially now with the privacy laws. Not even to your insurance co. If you fail a piss test that your ins. pays for, I still dont think your doc can give them the results of it.

I'm not at all worried about my doc breaking confidentiality or anything. But I would say I am not honest about my current drug use because I dont want my doc to have hesitation when writing me 'scripts. Just the fact that he knows I have a drug history (told him I 'used to' smoke everyday and use other drugs periodically but dont anymore) he seems to have hesitation even though my drug use is supposedly "past tense".

Maybe he's just onto me, and I dont give him enough credit for his abilities to sniff out a druggie. :o

Anyway, sorry if I didnt make it clear initially as to why I was asking.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, I woulden't tell my doctor I'm a drug user because he would be sketched when he's writting me prescriptions for vicodins.

what did what you have taken i the past deal with your finger being cut? see their just trying to get information out of you so you can get busted somehow. you really have to be careful. my friend and her b/f got busted by the cops because of there best friends. he was a narc. they had a kid and there friend had a kid and he still ratted them out! my friends had two pounds her them and the cops busted in there door and arrested them. they got put on bail and got out bu both of there parents, but you know they haven't heard or seen there friends since. and this was a long time ago. like 10 yrs or something
