View Full Version : PH stabilization in bubblers system

Yes, it's very hard to stab the PH in bubblers system or in any system where water is aerated by air stones. I notice that i start a rez with PH 6 and the day after it's 7 so i've got to lower it, and under some particular conditions, the PH is 4!!! Now i've got the exponation from an aquarium seller. When there is few CO2 in the air, there is more oxygen, the PH goes up. When there is a lot of CO2 in the air, less oxygen, the PH goes down. When i saw py PH to 4, i had added CO2 the day before with yiest and sugar. It's a bigger amount of CO2 the first day, and i keep it during the night. So during the day they have lot of CO2 and in the night, they liberate the extra CO2 plus my CO2 generation with yiest. So the air is very loaded in CO2, the CO2 goes into the water and drops the PH. Do you follow me ? So to stab the PH, it's necessary to monitor with precision CO2 enhancement. Same amount during the day and no CO2 during the night. How do you proceed StormCooker ? Zandor, do you commit my theorie ?

Sounds like one for Zandor, he is big on CO2. Unless your using a huge amount of yeast and sugar I don't think your making that much CO2. I have been known to be wrong from time to time.

This theory is more for fish then plants even though you are not injecting into the water I assume. Yes CO² injected into the water will keep the Ph in check just like for fish tanks.

If you are growing in Hydro then you need to balance the Ph twice a day minimum. Save the CO² for the plants when the lights are on. CO² enhancement does the plant no good during the dark period. If you are using CO² you must also have HID type lights too. Fluorescents do not have enough light for the plant to process the extra CO² so you must have HID lights.

The Ph in a Hydroponic system will move up as the plant uses up some nutrients and deposits waist back into the reservoir. Just keep your Ph in balance and don't worry.

Nobody said Hydro was easy and required little work to succeed.

Dirt is easy and simple but Hydroponics requires attention and work.

Fhydro, I got those skunk specials doing great, 1st week flower. Thanks for your post. Female Seeds .nl thanks you too.

This is my 3rd grow and I think I finally have the perfect "cocktail" of hydro nutes because my pH is the most stable I've seen. I do have a slow rise like I am supposed to. THis is a good thing because that way I know the plant is using the nutrients. I don't know how much C02 effects the pH though unless it is injected (like Zandor said) into the resevoir.

One thing to think about..... I think pH up bottles and pH down bottles lose their strength and stability after a while. I had a problem with a weird drop in pH (from 5.8 to 4.5 in 12 hours). I have never seen or heard of this. It's always been a fast rise in pH and not a fall. I couldn't figure out what the hell it was so I asked around the message board. Zandor suggested I use new fresh pH up. I threw out the last bit of older stuff I had and tried new. I brought the pH back up to 5.2-5.5 and there it stayed. So....if you have old pH adjusting liquids, I would buy new ones.

what nutes are you using? Tell me exactly what kind of water you use, supplements, everything. I'll see if theres something I can do for you. If you want my recipe, I will gladly tell.

I have found that all my ph problems went away when I purchased my RO-DI unit...
Also, by using Advanced Nutrients 3-part I get a 5.8 reading after adding G-M-B,
because there Advancede nutes ( they are formulated to be used to grow Medical Marijuana exclusively) are ph balanced to use in distilled/RO water...I then proceed with additives. No problem since using RO water...Is such a joy to add 3-part, get out ph pen, and watch it zero in to 5,8...goodluck

Thanks all. I use GH 3 parts with tap water which is PH 7 from the tap. I say that the CO2 is injected into the water as the O2 because of the air pomp, that's all. So you say that it's normal to have a little rise of the PH anyway because of the roots job ? OK, i just remember the QUEBUD post where he said that he stabilized the PH once every tank change, and never every day, but OK, i don't stress with that. Thanks for answers. StormCooker, i put my AK47 ladies to flower 2 days after you. So we will compare, OK ?

ok cool. How do you like the flavor and high of your skunk special? How does it compare to your AK?

If you can get a reverse osmosis system, get it!. I had one installed in my house. It only costs $30 US per month to rent. The water delivery companies do it like Culligan, and Poland Spring. You can buy them too and installl yorself.

Do you know the TDS level of your tap water? Maybe you should be using the hardwater version of Flora Micro since you use tap. If I were you , I would use a little GH Diamond Nectar and Floraliscous Plus.

I find AK47 stronger and more resinous than the skunk special. But maybe AK is too strong, can't smoke it except before sleeping. Skunk Special is a good compromise between yield ( awesome ) and strength ( B+, AK would be A+ ). Do you use a special horticole 250 HPS light ? far better results with it compared too a normal bulb. How is the grape fruit compared to AK? Thanks for the info about RO water, my TDS of tap water is EC 0.25 without nothing added in it. PH is 7. Is it hard water ?

Stormcooker i'll take your recipe for nutes to use. my last grow wasnt too good and it looks liek you get good results. I think it also cause i didnt monitor the pH levels like i should of.
