Was wondering if anybody had any advice for someone growing in an UNHEATED but insulated building
in the cold of winter wth regards to ventilation. Were talking cold--high in the mountains cold--and probably only want to ventilate enough to get rid of stale air.
Specifics:
BUDBOX or similar (3ftx3x6ft) portable tent.
400w mh/hps depending on stage (no veg room yet)
CO2 enrichment to be used.
exhaust/inline fan????????????????????

was thinking about using a normal inline exhaust fan from home de pot because cheaper and more importantly less CFM's--can buy a fantech for summer if necessary but usually the room temp in this building is 60ish for 2 months and much less the rest of year

or is this just not going to happen in the cold of winter?

or if in this case an upright freezer with its normally unwanted insulation the best solution (and would be cheaper=freeish)

Sounds perfect for your situation... you plug your exhaust fan into this "thingy" and set the temp.. when the temp in your room goes above "the setting" it turns your exhaust fan on..

I spent many years in Alaska, so I understand cold. The easiest, most logical thing to do in your situation is to use a grow tent, as you suggested, and create your own environment no matter where you are. That’s the real beauty of a grow tent in my opinion. The portability, the easy assembling and disassembling of the tent, the way you can manipulate the interior “weather” to match the preferences of anything you decide to grow in the tent. But there are significant differences in brands.

I have had two Homebox tents. The new one I am currently using has all the latest innovations built in, not the least of which is the reinforced, heavy-duty zippers. Unlike other brands that look like the Homebox grow tent and still rely on the same old cheap, weak zippers that pull apart after only a relatively few uses, the new Homebox has been put together to last!

Anyway, there’s my .02 worth. A grow tent is a good thing to own. A Homebox grow tent is a wonderful thing to own!

Nothing like customer satisfaction, is there? *grin*

Happy growing and good luck mate!

YOu already have the correct idea.

The light will heat the grow environment but you need to balance it with your exhaust. You need ideally a variable speed control to audit the air in and air out.

Place a thermometer in room or chamber and check it every 10 minutes quickly.

KEEP ACCURATE records...you will learn that when it is X degrees outside, your inside grow area will be Y degrees. You can then determine the heat put off by your lamps and adjust the air exhaust 'Z' accordingly...
