Been to the dam twice, the grasshopper is by far the best coffee shop.
its a bloody rip off though, the dam is the most expensive place in holland for coffeeshops, even 10 miles out of the city its cheaper
maastricht in the south is quality

Although I did get some good weed from the grass hopper in the dam (some -extremely- potent/frosty white widow), I think the best coffeeshop in the dam has gotta be either the grey area of the dampkring. Best bud I smoked in amsterdam was definately the grey area buds. All my buddies (including this random guy we met in Berlin that ended up travelling with us) bought a gram of different bud/hash and we sat down with the house bong (a nice 3 footer) and sampled them all :)
I like how you can smoke in the restaurant area of the grasshopper.

No hunters is the best place to chill out and enjoy a spliff. Best coffeeshop for weed is Blue Velvet they do 5grams of Widow for 25 Euros.

Hey everybody!!!
You do mention some great shops but there are a few very special shops and the quality of their products are top notch. Here is a short list...
Amnesia- ask Sissi to suggest, she is the owner.
La tertulia-most people can walk by and never know it is a coffeeshop!
Popeye-Most people pass on the way to being crammed into Barney's (Barney's IS awesome, though)
Mellow Yellow-The Amsterdam original

Well.......... we could all debate as to the BEST coffeeshop, if there exists such a beast at all.....
It's all a matter of preference, really. Many shops get the bud from the same suppliers - hard to tell what you're really getting these days at all.
My advice, stay FAR away from places that are tourist traps such as Bulldog, Grasshopper, etc. and follow the advice mentioned above to get OUT from the main Dam area and find the more local shops like Basjoe (pronounced ba'shoo), etc.
I'd even hop the train to Haarlem and visit Nol's shop there...
Just my two Bahts worth...........

Barneys for breakfast-Great Bloody Mary's, the 420 is awesome (and they sell beer) for weed and the vaporizor.... find the Bourbon street for fantastic live music... walked out of there about 4:30 AM and the place was still rockin. All is good for dope, only looking for good atmosphere and friendly staff!! I love Amsterdam, go at least once every two years.
i agree with u ....peaceman67
i was work in Mellow Yellow last years very nice atmosphere , great discounts ,after you checked the menu, the hash or weed is cut and weighed in front of you.
Also ppl check Haarlem 's coffééshops/sinsemilla,indica,sativa they are cheap and high quality ;)

Do you mean Haarlem which is about a 30 minute train ride from AMS? Better coffee shops or what?
