WHAT WOULD YOU USE FOR VEGGING?

Would you go with the 1000w hps and the EYE Hortilux bulb? for vegging or would you go with a 1000w mh for vegging?...........

The reason I ask this is because right now I have a 1000w hps system with a cheap bulb and am looking into the hortilux bulb for better over all grow and it's known these bulbs also do great for vegging but do they veg say as good as a warm deluxe mh bulb????..................

I was going to buy a mh system for vegging but thought if the Hortilux bulb could do the trick i would just order another HPS system? so I could have 2 grow box's happening at the sametime.................

If possible I would love it if a couple of pro growers would answer this question? but all answers from anyone would be appreciated...

Thanks............

If you're already going with a 1000W Bulb and not getting any heat problems then yea MH is the way to go for vegitation. However, If the grow area isn't too big, then look into those T5 lights or whatever. I was told they can veg better than MH simply due to the fact that they can be put a lot closer without burning the plants. But then again, I think you probably have a larer area your trying to grow in cuz you're using 1000W.

Prsonaly i'd go for neither, CFL's seem to be the way to go, especially from the some of the resuls i've seen.......like craziethug said it all depends on the size of your space and the kind of yeilds your hopin to gain......i'm sure theres more experience peeps thats can help you out a little more, but i'd go CFL's all the way...

A hortilux bulb will produce both red and blue light. During veg, you do not need red light. Hortilux lights were designed for people who want ONE BULB - ONE GROW convenience.

The added red of the hortilux is ideal is you want higher internodal length....like for growing mother plants. It would work great.

Its the bulb of choice if you are going to take clones from her. :)

But if not, you should still maintain the "COOL BLUES" of light for vegging that a straight MH, or CFL's, would provide.

Other than allowing for some stretching for the stated reasons, your plants have no need for red waves in the veg stage.

If I was starting from scratch I would buy switchable system..mh for veg and hps for
flower, but you need both bulbs...MH-agrosun gold/49%more red spectrum(you could use this all the way through...hps-eye hortilux w/enhanced blue spectrum...(also can be used all the way through...if you want just one lamp, choose one of the above...
I just got my 1000w hortilux, waiting on ballast...Zandor claims, (and I believe him)
2 lbs. per plant with this lamp and that is what he uses all the way through entire grow
hope this helps...goodluck

Sorry latewood....

You arent gonna get 2 lbs, or even 1 lb because of a light :)

Zandor grows that much becasue of the KBS he uses.

The lights are a peece of that equation but, its the KBS and the timing of nutes and environmental control that allows him to grow those redwoods.

well that is all true, but having the right light is key IMHO, and basically, the point I was getting across was Zandor uses only 1 light...The 1000w hps hortilux and that's good enough for me...Given, I will still use my 400w MH for veg.
