Hey guys,

I like the new forums; the Grow FAQs (http://boards.cannabis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=325) in the Cultivation (http://boards.cannabis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=19) area, and the Pot Polls (http://boards.cannabis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=326) in the Politics & Legal (http://boards.cannabis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15) area. They're both great ideas, and I can't wait to check out this new feature on the main page (http://www.cann.com) that Ron has been hinting at (something to do with the new Pot Polls (http://boards.cannabis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=326), apparantly). Really appreciating the heaps of new features! :)

[Please, don't think this as me trying to complain, or bitch, or whine, or moan. I'm just using this part of the boards for what it's for.]

I know you guys (meaning Ron or the mods; whoever decides or suggests these things) may not be thinking of adding any other sub-forums, because there aren't really any other subjects that need to be covered that aren't covered in one forum or another. But I thought maybe a Member Articles (or something similiar) section might be quite nice. I'll explain.

Most forums here are discussion forums; someone starts a new thread, and people reply, which inevitably turns in to a discussion or a debate. This is cool, because no matter what someone posts (whether it's a long-winded essay or a one-sentence spam -ahem-) people have the ability to reply and say what they like. Even though these replies might not always be very nice, you get the point...

But recently i've noticed something that's missing. None of us users are posting actual articles about anything. Sure, sometimes we copy and paste a link to an article, and I see sometimes in the Cultivation (http://boards.cannabis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=19) area people write up guides or instructions of their own. But generally the subjects are specific to the forums (or foru) they are posted in. So what if there was one forum (I called it Members Articles but that wasjust a suggestion.. i'm sure there could be a million better titles) where users could post their own stories, poetry, articles, FAQs, Guides, instructions, A-Zs, or whatever? They could be about any subject (including Cannabis), but would have to be written by the user who posts it, and would have to be properly written, have a minimum length, etc. And instead of users being allowed to reply to the articles they would have to rate the articles instead. Any discussion about the article could be done in another part of the board.

The benifit of posting it in this forum instead of the Lounge (http://boards.cannabis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2) would be that there would be a hell of alot less traffic there so the articles and such would much more accessible; the order of the entries would be in order of date submitted because there would be no replies, so they wouldn't jump up and down the queu; people who get fed up of alot of the styles pf threads and posts in the Lounge (http://boards.cannabis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2) could go there for some quality reading instead; all entries would be proof read first so there would never be any spam, racism, hatred, etc, etc, etc; and it would just be kinda cool and really interesting, I think.

(Oh and if any of the mods object for the reason that they wouldn't have enough time to read through articles and stuff, then they could maybe select a group of people to do that instead.)

Anyway, I haven't really thought this through - I just thought of it as I was sitting here - so there might be some obvious reason why this wouldn't work. If you think of any, let me know. If not, thenstill let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading, and again, thanks for the new content. :)

Peace.

PS +lol+ If replies to Articles were disabled (which would probably be a good idea) then maybe there could be a seperate sub-forum alongside it for people to post whatever they feel about the articles in the other forum. Then people would have a place to discuss the articles and such without messing up the flow of the articles forum and without having to do it in the Lounge (http://boards.cannabis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2).

Thanks again. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks.

Why do you think it's not gonna happen?

because 99.99% of stuff that is requested in this forum is met with a comment reminiscent of "why cant you just be content?"

and not actually adressed by the one who can change stuff.

Btw, if you wanna be exact and stainless with your grammar then you'd use the plural fora instead of forums...Since it's a Latin word anyway and thus the Latin language rules apply to it...

Good suggestion ... and one that's been considered - for such a topic area to work, there needs to be, at minimum, some volunteers who have good literary skills and the time to review new article submissions to be sure they are on-topic, have decent grammer (need not perfect, but it should be at least reasonably readable), and are only original articles that people have written.

The presentation of the articles is no biggie - that's the easy part ... my thought is to present the articles in a format similar to Cannabis News http://www.cannabisnews.com/ ... I originally created that site, so the programming is already pretty much done.

Let me know if this sounds good - and if you and/or others here have the time, etc to help make such a feature a reality.

Thanks!

Ron

Hey!

Thanks for replying, Ron!

I'm glad that you actually considered the idea.. You've even had the idea yourself, which is even better! :)

I realise it would take time and effort on somebody's part to maintain this, and of course I would be willing to give a helping hand, considering how much spare time I have currently, with one thing and another. I'm sure there would be others who would also love to lend a hand, and maybe even submit articles themselves - I know I definately would. :)

Like you said, the presentation shouldn't be a problem - the layout of Cannabis News should be suited to this kind of thing perfectly. The only problem I can predict is getting people to submit items, but something similar to a reputation or voting system would be cool and might add some sort of incentive.

Again, thanks for replying Ron! I kind of expected this thread to disappear in to the archives! +lol+

This is such an awesome idea it blows my mind. This is something I'd really be into. -laughs- I have more time then you can imagine, as well as sum mad literary skillz. If you need a helping hand, I for one volunteer. ((I know it's lame to be like ooh ooh pick me, but I'm way into this idea like milk in the fridge man, as in, I think it's real cool.))

Even if I don't get picked to help with it, please do it anyway! -laughs- I'd still be submittin' articles and stuff, which in essense is just as necessary for keeping it alive as a volunteer to help with regulating it. ;)

Just keep us updated on this awesome idea.

I'm too enthusiastic. Oh well. lol
