Almost every time someone responds to something I say, positive or negative, they assume I'm a man. I don't know if my username is manly or something, but just so y'all know... I'm a girl :) .
Oh yeah, and also, I think I'm comfortable enough here to be on a first name basis with people. So, my name's Sarah.

Thanks. I'm just glad no one who meets me in person ever thinks I'm a guy (cause that would really suck).

Ya, I call everyone a dude, regardless of whether they're male or female. Alot of the time people don't even notice, but sometimes people are like "Dude? I'm a chick!" or "Dude? LOL You're such a stoner!".
At the last place I worked I didn't really get on with the guys there. I don't mean to be concieted at all, but the reason I didn't get on with them was because most of them were assholes, real fucking assholes. They would stress out and shout and pull their hair out all the time, and expect everyone else to do the same. I never used to be like that (at least not most of the time), because even is something is important or urgent there's no need to stress about it. But because I have a really relaxed attitude to everything (wel, most things) and because I used the word dude alot, the two guys I got along with the least used to walks around saying the word dude in a really exagerated way, with one of those fake, californian surfer accents. Used to piss me off so much you wouldn't believe it.
Anyway, dunno how all that was really relevant, but hey, wotrugonado?

A Dude is really a derogatory term it means: an ingrown butt hair. It can also mean that you dont fully trust someone, or a term for somebody who is a scammer.
depends on my mood

The first time I ever heard the word used extensively was in the term "dude ranch", many years ago.
In the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence" (1962), Lee Marvin, as the Western outlaw Valence, uses "dudeā? as a put-down of Jimmy Stewart, who is from the East:
Jimmy Stewart: "What kind of men are you??"
Lee Marvin: "This kind, dude."
Valence hits him
Marvin: "Now, what kind of man are you, dude?"
I saw this movie when it came out. If I remember correctly, we saw it in a drive-in. It's on TV once in a while, and John Wayne is also in it.
"Dude" stated being used in New York in the late 60's in a similar meaning as the usage by the California surfers who adapted the word. Now it can refer to women, also.
I have never yet heard the word used in any references that you have named. I guess it depends on where you live.

That would totally suck... I was at denny's really stoned a few days ago... and there was this chick there that me and my friend thought was a guy. We were with my friend kristen and she knew the girl (evidently it was um... female) from highschool and talked to her for a minute and then came back to our table and I actually had to whisper to her and ask her whether the it was a he or she.... and evidently it was female. I say it because it was quite disturbing and I honestly couldn't tell....
