My name is Levi. That's leave-eye, like the jeans. My name is not Levee. It is not Leave-ee. All right, world? Somebody get it right already. I've almost given up trying to correct people.

Anybody else have this problem?

Yeh, when teachers at college, or whoever ask me my name i say "Josh" and most think i say "Jazz, John or Jack" No one ever hears me say "Josh", and they always ask again, no idea why no one can understand me when i say it.

I find it funny though, like a tutor at college on the first day asked for my name and i said "Josh" and he said "Jazz? That's an unusual name" and i was like "No i said Josh".... "John, did you say?" and then someone else in the class shouted "It's Josh!" haha

My friend Gerry gets called Jerry all the time! Seriously I've never heard anybody pronounce his name right their first time. Like when we would get attendance taken he was always called Jerry. After so long he didn't even correct people anymore it was funny.

I'm sure I could pronounce it, and I'm just an American. But then again I'm part Québécois and I speak French.

Dude, I grew up with Hockey cards, don't tell me I can't pronounce French names just because my last name was Bagdonis before my grandparents came to America.

As a matter of fact, my confirmation name is Anton, after Anton Stasny. You're Canadian, you know who he is.

I read your name right man. The same thing happends with me but its an honest mistake everyone makes: The name is Jaqueline not jacqueline, my name needs to be spoken (i almost wrote smokin lol) with a french accent. Thats the truth.

No matter what someone thinks my name is, I agree. Why argue? As long as they know who I am.

Hey Jacque-leen. Nice to meet you. I'm Chris and lost my virginity to a Jacqueline. I've been sober (off beer) for nine-hours, or after I fell asleep because I was enraged at the balls-and-strikes called during last night's Yankee game.

My last name is the same as a known first name with an extra "i", so everybody uses the "common" (but wrong) name.. sometimes they even mix it up, with using this as my first name

and hardly anybody pronounces it right either, but well, i don't care about this anymore..

I call others, that make this "fault" by different names on purpose as well.
"Hi John!" "but my name's Jack" "yeah, mine name's different as well, but who cares?" ;)

My name is Christopher, which means "Christ's bearer". Anyone named Chris who isn't a Christian was born to be a hypocrite. And for a long time, the only French phrase I knew was, "Plus ca change, Plus ce la meme chose."

Ask a guy from Ghana and he'll pronounce your name wrong.

English is so complex, French is more segregated, yet beautiflee.

are u saying french is less complex than french? coz english is sooo simple

ermitonto
10-01-2005, 04:38 PM
Actually, on the whole, languages are just about equally complex. It's just that the complexity lies in different areas. French, for instance, has a more complex verb system and English has more irregular verbs. French has gender in nouns which is hard for English speakers, and English has a complex set of verbs + prepositions (things like take up, take out, take in, take off, take down, take on, etc. which have very different, almost random meanings that have to be memorized) which is hard for French speakers. Both have ridiculously complex spelling systems though.
