If youre going to be buying a 400w hps , I would suggest keeping the 250hps and buying a 250 MH. Use MH for your veg, and HPS for flower, have fun watching those tomatoes grow!

cool thanks joel so the 250w will work i am new to this so will i be ble to use the same ballast for both the hps and mh or how does that work?will the set up be ok for 4 plants? :)

How are you going to keep the temperature down there? Man I'd kill to know what people always do to control the temperature of the beast they call HPS and not have their plants burn.

Take into the formula....

a: the hight of your growing container.
b: the light must hang from the top so how close can you get it?
c: the plant canopy must be a certain distance from the light source.
d: a 400W HPS gets hot as fuck...increasing the need for space from light.

Instead of a SCROG you may want to consider and LST....

But take those factors into consideration when choosing.

As far as heat, you need:

a: a fan blowing on the bulb itself.
b: a powerful air extractor removing the hot air OUT of the grow area.

A 250W HPS will work fine for a 2x2 area.

hay harddon and da1krayziethug,thanks for the info so plants need one square ft of space if i use the lst grow will i still be able to grow 4 if not what would u reccomend i believe that is my last question for you for now i really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. :) and thug i am using some fans for airflow.once again thanks for the info :)
