I don't know why they call it 'down under' when you're just as close to the sun.

Well i've always thought of 'up' as relative to one point, our sun.
Although i guess it could be defined as directly about or at right angles to the surface of the earth of each person so every person have a diferent 'up'...
...what????

People say all the time, referring to geographic locations, that they're coming down to a state that is higher in Latitude and coming up to places that are lower in longitude. If I'm coming over, wouldn't we be at equal Latitude?

Well (depending what time of day it is) you could be going towards the sun so maybe it would count as up.
As the northen part of the hemasphere was populated first people would have got use to calling north 'up' so when they ventured south it would be down.

Where did you learn that the Northern hemisphere was populated first? I'm not doubting you at all, I just didn't know that.
Did you know in Australia they read maps the other way round to us? If we looked at an Australian map we would think it was upside down, because it would be.
I don't know if that's true or not, I just made it up, but it would be cool.
Welcome to the boards. :)

the northen hemasphere was maped first then :p, and i can assure you in Australia we dont read maps upside down :p, all maps are drawn with the north pointing up.
Whats funny tho is all maps made in Australia have Australia in the middle of them, just like maps made in America have America in the middle of them and maps made in england have england in the middle of them.

They have Australia in the middle? Maybe that's what I heard but I just got confused and made something up... I knew it was something to do with maps.
So you're from Australia? Did you say that already or did I guess?
So how old are you?
