Large marijuana farm found in Duplin County N.C.
WALLACE, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities have discovered a 15-acre pot farm near Wallace, valued in the millions of dollars and considered the area's biggest marijuana bust in recent memory.
Up to 5,000 marijuana plants recovered yesterday morning weighed in at more than 4,000 pounds. Some were 14 feet tall.
Authorities say it has a street value of $7 million to $9 million. The plants were burned Monday night.
Food and a battery to charge cell phones were found in the living area. No arrests have been made.
Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace believes several people are involved, most of them locals with some possible outside help.
Property owner W. Richard Sorrell of Dunn says the land is leased by a hunting club and part of it is also farmed. Officials say Sorrell had no involvement in the illegal operation.
