NAJAF, Iraq, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Iraq's top Shi'ite cleric, Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, called on his supporters on Thursday to vote "Yes" to the country's draft constitution in a referendum scheduled for Oct. 15.

Sistani, based in the Shi'ite holy city of Najaf, urged his aides to spread support for the charter among his followers, his office told Reuters on Thursday.

Local television stations in Najaf also carried his call for a "Yes" vote on Thursday.

This has to be the biggest endorsement that the constitution can get. And the wheel keeps on turnin'! :D

Should it surprise anyone that a shia cleric would support a constitution written by shia clerics? A constitution rules out civil war, or at least it did in the US (forgot that, didn't ya?)

It was a 70 person delegation consisting of Kurds, Shiites, and Sunni. Of course there was a Shiite majority but they do consist of 60% of the population. I don't believe Clerics were invited though. Feel free to prove me wrong....for curiosity.

more good news.

There is not going to be a civil war in Iraq. The constitution will pass.A new Democratic Iraq will begin to rise and take shape more than it already has.
