yes you heard right...Making vodka! since that i've ceased growing MJ a few weeks back ive decided to turn my attention to making liquor, and what better choice than vodka! Im making it the old fashion way...POTATOES!!! its a very smelly process as im finding out but i'll show you the recipe that im using incase you may also want to do this:

3 pounds of potatoes
4 pounds of sugar
2 oranges
1 tablespoon of champagne yeast

You can use other things to flavour it such as raisins and lemons...you basically grate the potatoes...boil em in 3 quarts of water for 15 mins(3 quarts=6 pints if your wondering) scoop out the froth you get...strain into a pot and add sugar, let cool to room temp then add yeast and let sit for a week. stirring or shaking daily.

Then the fun part: Distilling! Warning of advice...discard first and last 100ml as it contains methynol...which can blind you! end result should be 45-55% vodka depending on how you distill it...Enjoy! ill add pics later on

Reminds me of that scene in The Great Escape where the whole camp is consuming potato moonshine. "Don't smoke while you drink this!" advises Steve McQueen to everyone he hands a cup to. Buy your liquor in a store folks. Poison is best made in a FACTORY, not in your bathtub.

true that it is indeed a poison and that its best made in controlled conditions within a factory but he keeps me busy since im not growing MJ at the time being *sigh*...Now i truely honour the quote

well im not a normal person jus plain wierd as im sure most people are here...just in their own special ways :D...anywho its reli jus a spec brew im doin really for my huge 'leaving' party for when i move to FL...hey a party is a must! and what better then a good toke and a bbq sitting in front of you wi som nice steaks waiting to be eaten...mmm!

I think making your own sounds like fun vodka is my favorite, I'd be adding all kinds of shit to try and flavor it, and yeah I totally want to try absinthe!

ermmm im not sure been fascinated (cant spell!) about how you can make absynth a kinda of hullucinogenic i dunno....xNoa, from what ive bin reading on the net its basically wood alcohol that develops during the fermenting process...various other people states different values of which you should discard. Some say 100ml...some say 50ml but i think to be safe ill throw away bout 150ml...I think when they say first and last 100ml it could possibly be all to do wi the temp of thw wash, naybe if its at a too low temp at the start and end of the distilling process but im not sure...look up more i shall!

Removing the Methanol
Be ruthless about tossing the first 50 mL (off a 20L wash) that you collect, as this contains any methanol (causer of hangovers - small quantities, or blindness - larger quantities). Even though I'm pretty sure I only collect less than 10mL at the methanol stage, I still discard 50mL, just to make sure. No need for penny-pinching when you're making 3L of the stuff, for less than $5. If you're using a potstill, you may need to increase this amount you toss up to 100-200 mL.

Jack writes ..I have tasted potstill alcohol that has been made both ways- when only 50ml (per 20L) was thrown out, the stuff was very sharp tasting. It became alot smoother when a full 100ml was thrown out at the start of the run.

This first portion is often called the "foreshots". They are different from the "heads". Ian Smiley (http://www.home-distilling.com/) describes foreshots as "the low boiling point compounds that come out of the still first. They contain acetone, methanol, various esters and aldehydes, and other volitiles. Foreshots are to be considered poisonous and should be discarded." Whereas heads "come out after the foreshots, and are almost pure alcohol, except that they are contaminated with trace amounts of unwanted cogeners ..." To get a really clean distinction between the foreshots and the heads, first ensure that you've let your column equilbriate under total reflux, then hold the reflux ratio high, such that you remove the foreshots only very slowly (eg 1 drip per second), thus allowing an equilbirium to be maintained at the top of the column, encouraging the methanol to collect there.

If you're after making pure neutral spirit for vodkas or gin you may choose to keep the heads (eg the next 250 mL-1L of spirits) separate from the following couple of litres (middle run) on the basis of their taste. These heads can still be used to make liqueurs, whisky, rums, etc, or redistilled later if desired totally neutral. The only problem with heads is their non-neutral taste.

The distinction between the various phases depends on what sort of still you have. They will all tend to merge from one to the other. This is particularly the case with a pot still, where you notice the temperatures always slowly changing as the distilling run progresses. Using a reflux still or fractionating column will allow the various stages to appear more distinct, as the temperature will be more stable, due to the more distinct seperation of each compound.

This is a cheats way But it works Fucking awsome..
Get a Large Water mellon.
1ltr bottle of good quality Vodka.
cut a small hole in the top of the mellon.
slowly pour the vodka into the mellon untill it absorbs all of the vodka
.plug the hole up.
leave it in the refridgerator for atleast 3 hrs.untill Icy cold.
Makes a Nice summer afternoon even nicer.:D.

hmm, ssmoking my own grow does make me feel better and proud of myself that ive accomplished an illegal activity that is bennifitful,, obviously the person above that says it does not make you feel special has not grown, it would be stupid to say that she doesnt but that is what id guess

Me and some guys made a batch of homemade beer in college....it was fucking putrid. I've never puked so hard or as much in my life. I was sick for a fucking week... Never again, I'll leave the alcohol making to the pro's and buy it at a store.

Man, why dont you use that methynol to distill out some honey oil? I would love to have some for my alcohol extracted oils.

Pretty impressive distillation knowledge. I had a friend in the North Carolina mountains used to bring me shine once a year in hand made bottles. Damn cool bottles, damn good rotgut too.

Soz bout not repling any sooner...im well under way with distilling at the moment...have been distilling for about 2 hours and already have made about half litre of vodka...the taste is a very smooth vodka with a hint or orange flavour in it...ive discared the first 125ml of the 1 gallon wash and left the rest to collect in a 1 litre bottle i'll have som pics of it up real soon!:D

i once could make some the best blackberry wine around so ive been told
not done so in a while though miss them days.

indeed well for my first time doing so ive done preety well :) ive just finished distilling the vodka and out of one gallon wash i got about 1 and half litre of distillate of vodka! here are the pics while i was distilling...sorry for the crap quality

Making Beer is a lot harder than making wine. I soaked some old raisons in apple juice and added wine yeast. It didn't come out half bad. When you make cheap homemade though, half bad means drinkable. I made another OK wine out of cranberry rasberry juice. The no-frills cran-Rasberry tasted a lot better than Ocean spray, and made better wine too. I'd love to distill some of my homemade wine, but it's illegal in the U.S. Not that I give a fuck about stupid laws like that.
