I visited Austin a few weeks last year. I wasn't paying for it so I stayed at a nice hotel and had a real high-class time. I have to say, however, that I wouldn't return. Austin seems as bled dry of morality as any other southern town. There is nothing for me in good 'ole Texas.

Howdy GhostToker,
Yup..we will be okay,we may git some strong storms out of it though,I have a nephew in Houston, going to college down there,I hope that he had enough sense to git on out of town. I'll tell you who ain't okay though..and that's heartsurgerysurvivor and his gal, they are still in need of help,as well as their neighbors, southeast of New Orleans, they tell me that their whole parrish is being neglected by fema and the red cross, that even the sheriff's department is not being told about any aid stations. They feel that they and their neighbors, have been abandoned, even the local churches have stopped helping. Today,I'll be raising heck with my local red cross chapter,I talked with them yesterday and the director was supposed to call me back, but never did. There's all kinds of help that is being turned down and away,or being kept out of the area..it borders on the insane !
I hope and pray, that those in the path of this terrible storm, will survive.
Have a good one ...

I would leave as soon as humanly possible there man. This is the 3rd strongest Hurricane ever recorded in U.S. History. Well if you're going to stay.... Surfs Up!
But in all seriousness, My thoughts are with everyone who will be affected.

Hey Torog,
Glad to see you and yours are okay.. When I heard about Hurricane Rita possibly heading for Texas I automatically thought of you, since you're the only Texan I know! lol
I've heard the stories about how all kinds of aid are being turned down or turned away, and how whole big areas have been ignored by FEMA and such... That's the problems you get when everything is so bureaucratized and when different agencies have overlapping jurisdictions, I guess. I'm sure there have been alot of arguments and fights between different agencies over these events, and i'm sure they don't do it because they want to help real bad, it's just a matter of pettiness. I wish people would just fucking help instead of arguing over who's going to help, where they're going to help and who's fault it is that there isn't enough help, blah blah blah.. They seem to think these matters are more important than actually helping!
Anyway, i'm rambling, like usual. All my best to you and heartsurgerysurvivor. I guess it's gonna be a hard time for you guys in the South...

It is the strongest hurricane to enter the Gulf of Mexico since they started measuring. If you're anywhere near this thing, get away. Now.

bigger than hurricane andrew?! that was a huge ass storm, from what i've seen on the internet.
there should be some kind of defense to these acts of nature. like a dam or something that's fifty meters deep that is sealed so that the water isn't heated like it is by the sun, then when storms come through and the seal or whatever is open - all that water that hasn't been heated by the sun can act as a defense against this enormous heat engine. cool water temperatures would definitly weaken tropical storms like these. lol, that's unrealistic, but it's a thought.

There are so many Houston people here in Austin right now you wouldnt believe it. Once you come to the "music capital of the world" you never go back :p...Well actually it would kinda suck if they all stayed here permanently...so we'll see what happens with Houston.
