View Full Version : Life in our galaxy? What's your view on the universe?

I was checking this out. It's about more findings about a moon of Saturn, called Titan. There's evidence of a shoreline and some researchers say that life may live there today.

Any one interested in Astronomy should check it out, if they haven't already.
The rest of you should learn this.
What are some crazy explanations of the Universe?
I don't wanna hear Big Bang things.

Believe it or not there are no crazy explanations as far as I'm concerned...it's all science...and in science it's either this or it isn't...and by science I mean mathematics...Cuz science, chemistry, biology, astronomy are all maths...You're gonna tell me now that maths are a man-made conceivement and hence it might be inadequate in explaining the universe...WRONG...maths are a universal language and maths would still be there explainig how the universe works with or without us being aware of it......Using maths,Carl Sagan, a famous astronomer said that a galaxy the size of ours could accomodate a million sentient lifeforms other than us...
So the Big Bang is the theory that explains it all...simply cuz maths confirm that...and so far we are fully aware(well scientists are not me) of the universe's history...except for a tiny fragment of 0,00000000000000000000001 secs(that's 23 zero's so you dun need to count) right after the Big Bang which is a separate Era of our Universe...It's that way cuz it can't be any other way...
You may want to imagine that the whole universe is a lab experiment of some super race...but if the maths don't add up then that simply aint the deal...And even if that IS the deal...then that super race would have to obey to the rules of maths,too...
Now if that's how it works then how come we dun know everything there is to know about the universe? Simple...cuz we dun know everything there is to know about maths! Which means that all the crazy stories we may come up with may be ok to share around a campfire under the stars but that's all...
My english definitely isn't as good as it should be for me to make my exact point but hopefully you can follow where I'm going...

I was looking for a 'crazy' explanation like 'the universe is a giant pinball machine and our galaxy is just one of the balls waiting to get 'bopped' into play". I want to hear creative thoughts, true and untrue, about our Universe. Or even analogies.
How about facts? Or books by Isaac Asimov.

You may want to imagine that the whole universe is a lab experiment of some super race.
But I do believe in the Big Bang Theory. You were on track.
i heard the other day that life on earth may have come from another planet, for example bits of mars fall on earth quite often so if one of these rocks had some sort of life on it then it may breed and evolve....
so i was thinking maybe we started off on another planet burnt it out and with no other hope of survival packed a rock with dna or whatever and shot it into space in the desperate hope that it would land on another planet and go from there....

Isaac Asimov!!!! My man...you got me totally!!!
Would love to meet him...we would sit down smoke a lot and talk for hours...this guy could feed my brain till it overloads and burns down!!! What's your fave book of his? I haven't read many, the most well known only..."Buy Jupiter" is a kick ass anthology you should DEFINITELY check...Try A.E. Van Vogt too he kicks some serious ass...the Ringworld is his own creation if you've heard of it...

Well, my favorite is "Robots and Empire", but that's because it is the one that I chose to read first. Ayn Rand is another one of my favorite authors. I think she died, and I didn't know Isaac Asimov is out there. I haven't checked up much on either because my soul has been on the back-burner for 35 dog-years. In other words, my girlfriend sucked out all my motivation to continue 80% of the activities that I, once, enjoyed.
I've never even heard of A. E. Van Vogt.
Reading is like bowling to me. I'm good enough to do it, but I can't find anyone to help me indulge in it.

ALiens do exist but we will never see them their just like us a world or... a life of a different species, ok like ... say . here on Earth ..Humans are in charge .. right? ok but on a diff. planet maybe .... snakes are in charge. or maybe gorillas, and humans are the bottom of the food chain... makes you think huh?

Indeed it is. So many mysteries & sights that many of us won't see in our life time.
a universal theory that i find really interesting is the thought that every person on earth is connected by it's power and mystery....almost like magic. i could dwell into some kinesiology, but i'd be getting into a whole other mess.
it's a great explanation for moments that you think of an idea that isn't existent or could possibly be being built the very second you thought of it and the next week you see it on t.v. or hear of it on the radio, whatever. the theory states that at the moment you connect on a thought, that very instant another spirit (who knows how many) also connect, thus bringing along a conclusion. it's like we all work together to develop this world. i like that theory.

It's called gravity...lol...just kidding, but you're theory has a hole in it...we don't all smoke herb.
Read the bible man. lol just joking, but seriously my grandpa made the universe. and there is no life except us. We are alone, and that's the truth.

Well, there's no ruins of a previous civilization on mars, and they would have just sent actually colonists rather than DNA if they had to evacuate. unless you meant any planet, not just mars.

There are too many truths and revalations about the universe that we will never comprehend.
P.S. - all great empires come to an end, I hope the U.S. isn't seeing it's last days.

i never said we all smoked herb. we're all human-beings though.
the universe is so immense that we don't even know everything that is possible. deep in space, there is us in the future. i find it hard to believe that our lives aren't predetermined. it'd be scary to think that we are all just spontaneous acts of random. perhaps that's where deja vu comes from. hey. it's a theory...

I ??dated? a guy one time that was into Ayn Rand. He was such a self-centered prick?.he gave me ??Atlas Shrugged? and I have yet to read it.
You can??t blame anyone else about your soul?.shame, shame?..
As far as the Universe goes??Hmmmmmm.
I used to think of the universe as being in the consciousness God ?.but then I wondered how evil could exist in such circumstances and decided that it couldn??t.
I do believe in a divine creator ?..and I am a Christian.
But I do like learning about other religions.
I??m really digging metaphysics right now?it??s not a religion ?..but it??s something special.
p.s. I also heard something about the rings of Saturn gitting smaller....thought that was strange.

Us Ayn Rand admirers are all alike. ^. I have "Atlas Shrugged" laying around somewhere. I stole it from my High School Library, but it's no "Anthem", and I've yet to read it, also.
Ganj, I wasn't implying that you said that (about everyone smoking herb), I was saying the only way we could pull off your theory is if we all smoked herb.
Everything else stymies me. Why the moon is so close, and why we have only been there once. Maybe twice. So many years went by and we've made no progress (besides, seeing detail into the outer galaxy, which is AMAZING). I take it all back. Nothing stymies me and the moon is very far away.

I've taken two ast courses at utexas. It's just as crazy to believe we're the only intelligent life as it is to believe we're not. I love it.

One course was called "search for extraterrestrial life" as to not copy "search for extraterrestrial intelligence".

There might be an entire civilization living in the core of Titan, that has evolved much further than us, and already destroyed their atmosphere like we're doing, and has migrated to life "within" the moon, which is as large as Earth. Maybe they know all about us through their advanced technology, but ,being the stoners that they are, are content to just sit back and relax within the core of Saturn's moon. One of them.

Even if that is so and life is a video game...video games have rules...and once you get a hold of them you can have the control...and if you achieve elite status playin by the rules you just might get the chance to create your own...I think...

You can get higher if you drink out of a methane or -ethane sea.
But in the first half of next month, I'll meet you in the asteroid belt and try some of their herb.
