Now this one would be an effort that would have to be made on a massive scale in order for it to have an effect...but if it was acted out with consience by everyone it could stir things up so much it could bring the so much wanted change...
What if everyone everywhere stopped hiding and being discreet...I'm not talking about mass rallies and pro-pot rallies or anything...I mean ppl actually tokin whenever they feel like it wherever they are, in public or not...but everyone who smokes should be part of this...imagine that...the guy behind the desk at Taxes Department gets fed up with all the paperwork so he naturally skins one up and lights up in the office...the kids toke in the school yards during the breaks...Mr. Doe a family man who's been doin it secretly from his wife and kids lights one up on the table right after dinner...hell even Joe the DEA officer does it infront of the colleagues...everyone's doin it like it's totally normal...in the streets, in cinemas and theatres...ANYWHERE...EVERYWHERE...sure the first response would be supression...all the ppl mentioned above would end up in a cell...but guess what happens if that goes on for like 2 weeks or a month...in cities like NY,LA or Chicago there must be at least 30.000-40.000 arrests a day...soon enough there'll be more ppl in jail than out...the system collapses...the economy,too...next thing you know everyone's released...laws are passed...and Bush is doin it infront of the cameras...Now that would take some huge balls on behalf of each and every individual...but think about it...it's a no miss plan...If EVERYONE that does it takes part...
I'd take part if I knew everyone else would,too...

It would indeed be a great thing, and probably would work. unfortunately though, most stoners just seem content and don't really care. there's many people like us who want to fight for our rights, but unfortunately there's even more simple minded people who just wanna take a toke and never give a second thought to changing anything, but rather just accept "oh well, that's the way it is". *sigh*

"Using illegal drugs is against the law, and when you're caught, you will be punished. Some think there won't be room for them in jail. We'll make room. The rules have changed." â??George Bush I
Somehow I don't think his son would think any differently. Even if you could convince a large number of potheads to go along with this plan, you have to remember that the Republicrats don't give a shit that America has the biggest prison population of any nation on earth. Their philosophy is, the more people are in jail, the less scum there is on the streets, and the better society is.

I think the government would have a hard time taxing it since it is so easy to grow in your own house.

Yeah, the stuff in stores would probably be heavily taxed like cigarettes, and full of radioactive fertilizers and pesticides and all that crap that tobacco companies put into cigarettes these days. I'd probably just end up growing my own.

Alright then...I got your points...what if everyone else...anywhere else than the US did it? I'm not sure that France,Spain, the UK or even Greece for that matter would respond like the Americans...these are nations that simply adopted anti-drug legislature...they never felt the need to come up with it on their own...I'm guessing they adopted it as a means of good public relations with the superpower...So let's assume it's free and legal everywhere else on the world! And the US is the only nation left out of this...then what? And don't tell me the US would then impose it's will on the rest of the world cuz it simply can't...not if the rest of the world is united behind that one..and if that ever got to happen it would be in the form on national laws that every nation would pass in it's own parliament...Somewhere the US can't intervene as hard as they try...That would effectively turn the US into the laughing stock of the planet and the UN building would once again echo with laughter :D ...And if the US still tried to play it rough the rest of the world could simply piss on them till they drown every last one Republican, hard-core Christian, conservative mutha...I mean fuck it...it's the US that 1st passed anti-drugs laws and they've been imposing them on everyone else...if they so like having to hide in a hole underground in order to smoke a joint let them do it in their own backyard...leave the rest of us alone...my GOD...if only I wasn't dry those days...I'm gettin all worked up here!!! I'd need a huge blunt to take all that frustration away!!!

I agree that things would be significantly different outside the US. There are too many "Republican, hard-core Christian, conservative muthas", as you put it, and they hate progressive change in society with every inch of their bodies. America will probably be one of the last countries to legalize it because of these strong reactionary forces in American society.
I think Europe will legalize it first. Drug policies in Belgium and Germany are already starting to be influenced by the success of their Dutch neighbors, and I think a wave of decriminalization/legalization throughout the EU is a real possibility in the coming years. The next candidate for legalization is Latin America. In Colombia and Peru it is already legal in small amounts for personal use. In large parts of Latin America the drug trade is deeply entwined with society at all levels, from the poorest peasants to the richest government officials, and the drug laws are really only there to prevent a US invasion.
