Hello all.

I'm 35 yr. old from the midwest and have suffered from chronic pain for 8 years. As a result of a car accident (thrown), 5 back surgeries, two spinal cord stimulators, and so many medications I can't recall them all, I am now about to embark on something I never even considered. BUT, after researching smoking online and talking w/ other chronic pain patients, it sounds like this may be a partial answer to my problem.

I know these are VERY rook'ish questions...should I roll them or use a pipe when starting out? Is either one easier for the beginner? I smoked a couple times back in college, but rarely benefitted from it, as I didn't fully inhale. How much (and remember, I don't know jack about amounts, etc.) do I use the first few times...a large 'pinch' between the index/thumb?

After talking w/ my docs and coming to this decision, it is obvious I won't be using my meds...at least anytime in the very near future. I have plenty to fall back on for 'breakthrough pain', but still have a decent amount of 'extras'. What do I do with these things? I know I can give them back to the docs to basically 'dispose of' for me, but is there any other options??? :confused:

Put it in a bowl...conserves the weed better and I believe you get more use of your weed.

When you smoking joints or blunts in between hits your letting weed burn away.

When you cherry your bowl your letting it burn but I don't know...Pipes are better.

I have to say that I am pleased to see that you are taking a natural and healthy approach to dealing with chronic pain.

I would recommend using a pipe. You can buy these at your local headshop (some tobacco places have them too.. just take a look around), I would recommend getting glass, because it's the best thing to smoke MJ out of. As far as how much you should use, I'd just say smoke a full bowl and see how you feel, and go from there. If you feel good, there's really no need to smoke more. If you don't feel all that great yet, pack another half-bowl.

The best way to explain MJ inhaling is you want to inhale sort of slowly, but with a lot of force behind it, if that makes any sense. You basically want the smoke to go all the way to the bottom of your lungs. Hold in your hit for about 10 seconds, and then release. Repeat until the bowl is "cashed", or all used up.

Basically, pipes are good for personal use or 2-3 people, and I would recommend joints for more people, and blunts for even more people. If you have any questions, let me know, I'll do my best to answer.

In my opinion you might want to consider cooking and eating it.

I personally recomend that you roll a joint. Now you CAN do this. Roll a paper around a pen and stick it down so you just have a tube. Put a little rolled up piece of cardboard in the end for filter. then just fill it up with your broken up bud. I guess if your not sure of your tolerance...take a few hits then extinguish the rest of the joint. Full effects take 10-15 minutes to manifest and at that point you can determine how much or how little you need.

My mother smokes to help her deal with chemotherapy and it helps her. :)

buy urself a nice pipe and use as much as you need to help with the pain...ive never smoked weed for pain problems but id say dont bitch out on the weed, buy the good stuff

by the way, are you from nebraska?

yeah, make sure you dont get junk...

most people just smoke until they become comfortably high...theres no set amount to smoke...certain people will be happier smoking one bowl, and others smoking bong hits until its all gone, its all about preference...

if your doing it for pain, you may want to get a vaporizer...it minimizes some of the health risks (though bud is safer then pills or anything youll get over the counter)

vaporizer is def the #1 choice for health reasons but a glass bowl will smoke smooth a bong will hit smoother and a joint well its like an unfiltered cigg, but with a much better taste... try all of these see which one you like after all you are the one smokin it....

Its different for each try mate. Don't worry about it, because there has been no proven risks for marijuana. Especially in the short term. Roll a joint, pack a bong, pack a pipe, do what youve gotta do and just smoke it up. See how you feel! Let us know how it goes too! I remember my first high... :)

Am I from Nebraska....hmmm, after I just watched the ugliest display of football known to man tonight vs. Pitt, I will have to say I don't...never been there...not even sure where it is. :)

I'm with the start slow philosophy, as I have no clue how much will have the best effect/relief. I have to admit this won't be my veeeeeeerrrrry first high. I faked smoking it a few times in high school to 'fit in'...and then 'it' happened...yowsers, did it ever. :p My wife and I went to a marriage counselor when we were still living in Oregon (need I say more? :D ) Up to that point I really hadn't thought much about smoking pot, that is until she told me how she too suffered from chronic pain. This woman couldn't get up fast enough (I think she was high at that moment too, which would explain her jumping out of her chair like a cat...pain, what pain!) to get to the fridge. I have to claim ignorance, 'cause when she brought out this wacky lookin' old juice jar with some concoction in it, I thought this lady was gonna drink a shot or two of this syrup'y stuff and didn't like to drink alone. :eek:

Obviously it was cooking oil...pot style. :cool: So along with this bottle, she sent home a 'sample pack' of what I now know was some of the best stuff known to man. I promptly went out to the local cigar shop and picked up a big ol' mack daddy pipe, and started stuffin' it until it could hold no more. Yes, I smoked every speck of weed in that thing as fast as I could....I also didn't move so much as an eye muscle for the next 3 hours. It was the CRAZIEST feeling I've ever had! I hope this makes sense...I knew I was there...in that exact spot in time....and was having conversations (w/ myself mind you) in my melon, but couldnt' get my mouth to open to verbalize them. I was kinda 'trapped' in my own body, but not 'trapped' like you were in a boat that was goin' down, more so that you saw the boat taking on water...and became fascinated by the water show...and then saw your reflection in the water and noticed you were in full scuba gear.

Ok, that sounded a tad wacked. :rolleyes:

Anyway, thanks for all the help, and feel free to keep it coming if anything else pops in your head.

Sounds like you got some relief there. :) A bubbler is also a good choice I think. Dry pipes can be really harsh and depending how often you medicate may cause irritation.

Sister lives in Omaha...spent a great deal of time down there growing up. I still have a hook-up from Oregon that should work out ok.

Hehe.. sounds like you just got really high. It sounds like you enjoyed yourself, am I right? I mean, was it fun? And more importantly, did you get the relief from chronic pain that you were looking for? Because that's what's most important, IMO.

find a head shop, buy you a pipe (glass will not add a sometimes unpleasent taste as where metal will) then you take the bud and break it up into about 4 or 5 small peices (a lil bit littler than a bead off one of those mardi gras bead necklaces) and pack it in the bowl, don't shove it in as hard as you can, but you don't want it to be able to fall out if you turn the bowl upside down. when first starting take the first bit slow, cuz you will cough alot (it will get less and less with time) take small hits, i find it easier to suck (only way i can think to explain this is think of whistling but backwards, you want to be suckin with your lungs not your mouth) on the pipe hold it in for about 10 or so seconds (not like smokin a cig where you jsut breath it striaght out again) considering you seem to be clean as far as thc in your system already, unless you get some really shitty weed (which if your ordering it online it won't be) you should be 'comfterable' in a few hits. as for joints unless you know how to roll i wouldn't suggest it, it's not like rolling tobacco since weed has a diffrent texture and rolls diffrent, if you want to roll it i'd suggest getting a grinder and grinding up your weed, getting a few packs of zigzags and a tin or rolling tray and rolling and re-rolling it til you get the hang of it...you don't want it all loose, but then again you don't want it too tight...these types of things just take practice and prefrence (some people like them looser some like them tighter) and as for rolling a blunt if you ever decide to, you do not roll it (ateast not the way i learned) you just work your way down it's lenght packing it down and forming the circular shape and then going back over it and sticking it together.

when you said you couldn't move a muscle that means you were really messed up. personally i hate being too high and not doing anything. i use my bud to keep me active. hell it's the only time running has ever been fun for me so why stop.
