If you started from seed and it is just a baby sprout, you need to keep it moist all the time.. A couple tablespoons of water a day at least. After 14-21 days it should have some roots established... that go deeper than 3 inches... then you should water only when the top 2-3 inches are dry ... then you use the soak ... and dry system.... if a seedling drys out, it will DIE! yikes

also depends on how hot it is.. but like I said, a baby needs to always be moist....

soak and dry..

when a plant is developed enough ... the ideal way to water is every few days.. water it suffceintly enough so that the water leaks out the bottom of the pot.

then, you don't water for at least 2-3 days.. giving the plant enough time to soak up the water...

Seedlings don't store alot of water.. because the energy is concentrated on immediate development. not water storage.

Therefore, you need to keep seedlings consistantly wet.. until they've developed at least a node or two.

read up on "damping-off" also. it can be a common seedling problem for some
