HARDDON! Root Up or Down!?

Harddon or ORFreebird or someone, When my root barley starts coming out of the seed, How far down to I plant it in my soil and does it go root up or root down?

place so seed head (unexposed part) is 1/4" deep, facing UP

I like to stick a pencil in the soil, gently place sprig in hole, gently fill hole with loose soil.

water lightly, just a cuple sprinkles, then fill and sprinkle again.
