Alright guys. I got a Driving On Suspended charge and it is my second offense. I live in Virginia and I was wondering what do you all think they would do if I say moved to another state? I already know that I'm going to jail if I show up for the hearing but just how far would the state of virginia go to find and arrest me? I'm real serious about this guys. It's a real possibility. How would I get a job? Will I have to hide for the rest of my life? Please help me out here.
My entire life is hanging on this.

I'd like to add I had a perfect driving record. I only lost it due to unpaid parking fines. In addition we were planning to move out of state this month for other reasons. To make a long story short I got into a car wreck 2 months ago (other drivers fault but lost my lisence due to the unpaid fines and charged with driving on suspended. I'm losing my home because the rent is late due to my inability to work from the injuries sustained in the wreck. After recovering somewhat my landlord comes to my home and threatens eviction. So I have no choice but to "Drive" to my job and pick up a paycheck in order not to be evicted. Cops see that my inspection sticker is dead and they get me again. Driving On Suspended 2nd offense. Now my landlords really pissed and I expect a eviction notice anyday now. In addition to my reasons for leaving the state I also wanted to add that my current home is fucking full of lead and the landlord would never fix it because it would cost in the thousands. As a result my two year old son is showing signs of lead poisoning which is affecting his size, weight and learning ability and not to mention he just looks sick. I don't want to be hunted for the rest of my life but I don't to suffer with what I'm going through now either. So I guess the question is which suffering should I choose?

Is this charge really worth running from the law? Once you're in another state, you will still have the same name and info. You get pulled over there, they will see there is a warrent for your arrest in another state...your fucked then. You'll get more charges stacked on top of your previous ones and your time will be probably 10x as much as it would be in the first place.
Edit: Sounds like your in a heap of trouble. Good luck

the days of skipping out of state for tickets are long gone with the computer age. all states run computer checks before issuing new licenses and that includes an ncic check for any warrants. if you do not show for court you will have a bench warrant issued where any cop anywhere will know about once a check gets run on you...which can happen at any time, even a traffic stop. once the warrant becomes known, you'll be immediately arrested and held w/o bail while awaiting extradition (if you're caught out of state). now some states won't bother with extradition for lessor charges and it'll depend mostly on the prosecutor and funds available but while they're deciding what to do with you, you'll be sitting in whatever jail in the county you were arrested in just rotting away...not even knowing when a release date will happen. and issuing bench warrants for no-shows really pisses off judges and they may even add contempt of court charge which can be very costly!
is it worth all that for a stupid driving w/o a license charge? yeah, it'll be a hassle not being able to drive for a year but it sure beats the hell out of not being able to drive for the remainder of your existance on this plane...eh? and i'm sure the judge will allow arraignments to be made so you'll still be able to drive to work/school or any emergencies so it's not all that bad...

if i were you i'd move to a small town where a car isn't even needed. the year will pass quickly then you'll be free and clear to go about your business w/o the fear of police entering your life at any time. i just happen to know of a perfect place to relax and spend that year chilling too! everything is within walking distance, crime-free town with all the schools also within an easy walk, clean air full of starry nights and legalized med use! rent is cheap and the landlord is most cool...

Thanks for the info del. But while I'm in jail for between one and ten days(That's what the judge said) what will I do with my family? My court date is on the 15th but I expect a 24 hour eviction notice much sooner than that. I just want things to go back to the way they were but it's too late for that now. If I left the state I would'nt be able to get a job either would I?

alamo, nv...google it. there's some info online...but basically it's about 80 minutes from downtown las vegas up in the high desert on the east side of the state. a nice bass lake 2 miles south of town, hot springs 5 miles north of town and area 51 30 miles due west.
i'm just saying the year will pass quickly once you get settled in someplace where you can relax and allow this stressful period to pass...and it will. and jail for driving while suspended? wow, pretty strict and unheard of around these parts. the most i'd figure on is a year's suspension and probably a fine. but even so, that's a small amount of time to do and it too will pass quickly if you just follow the flow and get involved in whatever activities are offered...chess, cards, you know...whatever they're doing to pass the time. join in and don't mope around...that'll only make it worse.

and what do you mean, "any more suggestions?"??? you HAVE to go to court and face whatever they give you...there is no other way to do it. you mentioned a family too...living on the run dodging cops is no life for any of you. and it's such a bullshit charge too...just do the right thing for all involved and do not run...

Listen manâ?¦ Delâ?¦.is absolutely right.
Do you want to go to jail for 10 daysâ?¦..
Or do you do you want to go for 6 months or longer.
Youâ??re family can stay with family or friends for the 10 daysâ?¦..hell in a last resort they can go to some type of shelterâ?¦.they will help (especially if there is a child involved.) Go to the Department of human services or some place like thatâ?¦..you will be making a HUGE mistake if you run from this little ass charge.
Some day 2 years from now you could be with your child somewhereâ?¦.and get scooped up buy the policeâ?¦.happens all the timeâ?¦.if your child doesnâ??t have someone to come get themâ?¦.they will put them in foster careâ?¦..YOU DONâ??T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN.
I could give a shit if you skip out on your land lordâ?¦.fuckâ??em. But DONâ??T miss this court date.
Explain you situation to the judgeâ?¦.

do the ten days, running will make it worse.you cant hide forever .
del was right on about the computors, first time your name ever gets ran in your gonna be locked up.seen that done to people many times over some old warrant years old, bench warrants never expire ,miss a judges date and you have made a bad enemy in that court, one you dont want.they dont take kindly to people not showing up,its like slapping his face(the judge)
i should add that if your home has lead paint it is probubly in violation of federal laws,if you didnt sign some paper saying its ok that lead is there you will have a case to file siut and make sure ya kids health problems in the future over the lead will be paid for, and move out soon as possible,
get a doc to say its lead poisoning and get a lawyer. cheep ass landlord will wished he fixed it cuase you will take him to the cleaners for that shit.
if my landlord cuased my kid to be sick by being cheep,he would find that he has a mean lil hillbilly with a big ass stick beating his head in.he can counter sue me for his damages.
but mines pretty cool i can call and say fix this,he does.
good luck and hope ya kid is ok

My friend from Hurt, VA (g/f's brother) is locked up for ten years for his second offense. Go to New Orleans and learn to drive a boat. Kidding.
On his second offense, the officer told him to get his license straight, go to DMV, pay the fines, and show up to court with a valid license. And make it clear that the whole thing was a misunderstanding on your half. Just make sure you show up for the advisement (first court date).

I want to thank all of you here for your concern about me. I'm not going to run. I'm going to be a man and face my punishment. I won't put my family or myself through all that bullshit. Jumping court was a stupid idea that popped into my head. I'm sure everyone who faces jail thinks about running and some do. I know if I run my little Driving On Suspended charge which is a Class I misdemeanor will turn into a giant Class III felony which the courts affectionatly call a Fugitive File and I will go down hard. It just pisses me off that I have to go to jail because I'm poor and I can't afford to pay all of the fines stacking up on me and If I want to feed my family..... well I have to drive. I said it before my driving record was perfect and now I'm a bad driver because I'm fucking broke. Well fuck uncle sam and fuck anyone who thinks I'm a criminal for oooohhhh driving without a lisence. Do you all know that a driving on suspended charge is punishable the same as a DUI? Now thats fucking bullshit. I'm out there driving without a lisence trying to get money to pay my bills while some drunk bastard is swerving all over the road and killing people with his car because he thinks he can make it home from the bar drunk. I'm supposed to be in the same class as that guy??? Give me a fucking break. America is fucked....Just fucked.

but why are you assuming you'll be going to jail? is it already a done deal or just what you think may happen? if your family shows up in court with you and you show sincere regrets (maybe you have a solid reason for ignoring the last sentence?) my bet is you'll get off with no jail time and a smaller fine that can be paid in installments. be there early, dress well, be respectful, show humility and regret and you'll be taking the family out for lunch right after court...

I checked court records for people with the same offense as me and all of them did time. That is what I'm basing it on. I tell you what if you don't see any posts from me on 09/15/05 you'll know what happened.
