we're taught from a young age that all illegal drugs are bad, and they're all equally terrible and life destroying. unfortunately for big brother, we still have some people who use *gasp* critical thinking skills and actually find out for themselves.

it is quite remarkable though, how a whole society based around hatred of the evil marijuana is maintained through confirming each other of their own lies. (much like many areas of religion).

Some people react bad about weed because they are uneducated about it. Most of them have never had a first hand experience using it for medical, spiritual, or social atmosphere. They believe what the TV or media tells them too, and so many people have trust in the government(s) and figure they can trust them. So untrue. Government(s) are filthy liars and will say anything to get their way, because they have the power.

A few years ago, my teacher for a rehabilitation class said he knew a lot about weed. I was in there for a DUI.
On break, I talked to him and he told me to expect, within the next ten years, Europe and the U.S. to reveal it's studies.

The majority of people believe bad things about pot simply because the majority of people say bad things about pot. The vast majority of things you hear about pot in public are negative, and without any direct experience with it people are likely to believe them. For most people it's inconceivable that the government and the education system would so adamantly propagate an idea that just isn't true. Then when they hear somebody touting the scientific evidence that pot is a relatively harmless drug, they will dismiss them as just a deluded drug addict and won't take anything seriously.

The reason it's so hard to challenge the prevailing ideas effectively is that to most people our ideas are really outlandish, since they are in direct opposition to everything they've been taught throughout their lives by teachers, policemen, parents, legislators and the press. To that person, you look like just another crackpot until you provide enough evidence that your claim is correct. In order to maintain your position you have to refute lots and lots of popular myths about pot, and you have to bring up a lot of complex information about human biology, brain chemistry, sociology, criminal punishment, etc. And to top it off you have to explain how we got to a point where almost everybody believes those myths. Most people simply don't have the time or motivation to listen to somebody explain all this stuff. And even if they did, where would they get it from? The mainstream media aren't going to distribute this information to the public, because they don't get any money out of it. The media don't care about truth and objectivity, they are corporations and are ultimately concerned only with profit. And outside the media, well, how many of us are really going out and confronting people with this information?

its because the goverment advertises these crackheads who are dying with a joint in their hands...many people use pot to take the edge off of harder drugs they are addicted to...

recently a scandinavian country (forgot which one) has legalized all drugs...the only one that went up in use is heroin...people are going to do it either way...

bud is NOT for everyone, but many people can lead much happier lives with it, shrooms too...the legalization of pot would lower the cost of high-quality bud, which takes less smoke to get high, and therefor less cancer...

When I was young I smoked to get stoned, now I smoke to ease the aches and pains of different ailments. The feds don't want it legal, because the drug companies can't put a patent on a plant. It all goes back to the Hearst family back in the early 1900's who was invested in paper mills that used trees for fiber. Hemp was cheaper and more renewable but to no avail. That is my two cents worth.

I understand what you mean, but some people, who are out there, have no room in their lives to worry about pot, because they're so ignorant that they are feeding the homeless. I still wouldn't call someone ignorant, just un-educated about pot.

I was just in another forum I used to go to, and there was a post about some old lady being arrested for having a pot plant. I *gasp* said "maybe we should leave people the fuck alone for preferring a toke to a drink", and i just love how I got the instant retort "you idiot, they're doing something illegal. are you saying when somebody is purposely braking the law we should just let them go? that people can just break the law and get away with it? wow you're fucking stupid" :rolleyes: . that really pissed me off, not because of the personal attack, but because it made me realize how so many people are convinced of the "infallable" logic that if it's illegal it's wrong. no wonder society has so much trouble evolving.
