Glass pipe or homade vaporizer?

Ok, I want to try a vaporizer and the ony way I can afford one is to make my own out a lightbulb, homestyle way. But, I don't want to waster my bud. So, I a asking for people who have vaporized there weed with homeade shit, should I jsut stick to my glass spoon, or will the vaporizer be a good idea (a.k.a. get me higher/ as high)?
