I am newbie, but all the books and internet stuff I have read say no. Not the right Lumens, too much heat. If you have to do it on the cheap get Flourescent and place the bulb real close, or buy a High pressure sodium from home depot. from what I read you really need a 400Watt or more of HPS or ML to really do it justice. Once again I am newbie, so take it with a grain of salt!

I think he means go to wally world and get 8 of those lights.

One will grow your plant for about 2 weeks, then it will look like a stem with some leaves.

Just look for the ones that look like a coil. Try to get at least 23+ watters as that's about as small as you should go but then you should be using as many as you can afford (within reason...not like 1000 of 'em! ha but a few of them at least). 45 or the 65's that HD suggested all the better. The more light the better. Then put them right down on the plant at a minimum of 1-2" from it and just keep it that close. They'll grow.

CFL's are notorious for their coil design. If someone thinks CFL this usually comes to mind.

Thise CFL's are PERRRRRRRRRRfect for clones.... one of those lights is enough for 100 clones ... if need be!!!!

If you can find some 23 or 45 watters then those will work fine. The ones HARDDON suggests are even better, but you have to order those as I've never seen them in the normal hardware stores and probably not in Canadian Tire either. Just put as many as you can in there. I use 9 (4 - 45's and 5 - 23's) plus a 2 footer and a 4 footer. But I'm obsessed...but also realize that just a couple aren't going to do what you want it to do. And get them close to the plants! At the very most a couple inches away and with proper ventilation (fans) within an inch. Just be sure not to let them touch for too long as they will fry a leaf.

I made the mistake of trying to grow with 2 duel 40 watt 4 foot fixtures. Two months later I could see they weren't growing very well so I got 2 - 175 watt mercury fixtures. They helped, but still not good enough. After 4 months of growing I broke down and bought one 400 watt HPS. At 7 months I had 2 of 5 plants go hermi on me.

In all my reading etc. I've come to understand growing plants is very much like growing a human! When people grow up in freaky environments with poor eating, sleeping habbits, they don't do as well as if they were better taken care of.

Now my second grow has two 400 hps fixtures. HOLY COW! What a freaking difference. In 9 weeks my plants are 3 feet high by almost 3 feet wide with no topping!

Good luck, but I believe you would do best by waiting until you can set it up right. Electricity is getting expensive and you don't want all that money wasted on crap for herb.
